Fun fact: Normal animals are implied to exist in the Pokemon world. Gastly (or Haunter) and another Gen 1 Pokemon I can't remember mention Indian elephants in their Gen 1 pokedex entries. Also, the fact that many pokemon are named after regular animals as their official classification (Pikachu is the Mouse Pokemon) also points to this.
