Sorry, don't know if you know this, but purely Japanese names are usually written with the surname going first and the given name going last when written in Japanese, like this: はまもとなおみ. So far I've only seen changed order with at least somewhat foreignish names, but these had katakana.

even more curious is the fact that she only remembered a name in hiragana rather than kanji. I wonder if there's a reason for that?

If you zoom in on her speech bubbles, it says in English very faintly, "Not talking is fine." "This is fine" "This is fine". It might say that in the Japanese as well, but I can't read it.

The upsides of being able to read Japanese... (or downsides I guess since it lacks mystery?).
Anyway, just finished reading what you have of chapter 1 so far. It's certainly intriguing so far. You're pretty good at setting a mood and atmosphere. I also like your style, it's rather unique and everything looks so sparkly and fluffy (I really want to pet all of these adorable Pokemon).
One downside of what I see from your coloring though is that there doesn't seem to be a lot variation in tones. It could be because everything right now is occurring during sunset (or sunrise?), but everything seems really pinkish or peach-colored, making it hard to distinguish between the characters, foreground, background, etc. It's not quite a bad thing per se, but it is kind of distracting, I guess. Again, it may just be because of the current setting/time of day, but maybe work on making more of a contrast instead of having everything so bright.
Other than the above contrast issues, I do think that your artwork is quite beautiful, and I'm looking forward to reading more and finding out about his mysterious Vulpix.

it looks like she talking very faintly in Japanese (or some other language (probably Asian) that uses symbols, sorry I really cant tell them apart.)
