Description
Glitchtrap slowly, methodically, stalked through the shadows, the eyes of his host body surveying the edge of the camp for targets that seemed particularly likely to scare easily. He paused, assessing a small group on the periphery of the extensive campsite. The humans in this group seemed particularly wary- they periodically glanced at the shadows, as if half expecting something to leap out of the darkness and attack. The smell of roast meat drifted from the campfire, and wafted in Glitchtraps direction. His hosts body began to salivate, trails of spit running out of the gradually regenerating corpses mouth, pooling in the mouth of the suit, and then spilling over the edge of the suits lips and between its teeth, dripping in beads onto the floor. For a long, tense moment, Glitchtraps host body began trying to act on burgeoning instinct, quivering in anticipation and trying to head towards the campfire, its eyes fixed on the venison skewered on the spit. Glitchtrap, fighting against the impulses of the host body, narrowly stopped it from walking right into the light and begging for a portion of venison, turning the host body around mere feet outside the edge of the circle of dim orange light cast by the flames. He returned the host body to its previous position several dozen feet away, and resumed stalking around the edge of the campsite.
As Glitchtrap continued to assess his potential targets, he also assessed the landscape. Much of it was barren and coated in a thin layer of dusty- or was it ashen? soil- as if it had been covered in some sort of vegetation that was recently burned away. What little cover there was consisted of gullies, projecting rocks, and stacks of building materials and containers. Glitchtrap began to silently stalk between these, periodically hiding behind them, barely daring to peer out from his hiding spots and observe the dim shapes clustered around the campfires. Patiently, he made his way down one side of the cluster, surveying the wall of turned backs and glowing campfires for a suitable target. He finally spotted what he was looking for- one group seemed to be fully off guard- and, his target chosen, he began the next phase of the hunt.
Glitchtrap stalked into a dry gully, keeping just below the edges of the gully walls. As he skulked along it, he listened to the snatches of conversation arising from the campfires. Most of what he heard were snatches about food, pieces of jokes, and laughable campfire ghost stories. He reached the end of the gully, and cautiously risked poking his host bodys head out, checking the distance between himself and his chosen targets. He was several dozen feet away from them- close, but not close enough to strike. Glitchtrap clambered out of the gully, and flattened himself to the ground, his already slow and methodical movements slowing to a crawl. Every move was deliberate, every step calculated- Glitchtrap knew that one wrong move- a single noise too loud- and his cover would be broken. Thankfully, he didn't have to worry about the visual aspects of the hunt too much- the Olive Green suit of his host body blended in decently well with the darkened shadows and the barely visible ground below. In the off chance he was spotted, all he had to do was lie still and let the spotter mistake him for a moss covered boulder. He patiently closed the distance- 20 feet- 15- 10- and, just 5 feet from the edge of the shadows, he checked the distance between himself and the humans, and, finally, decided that he was within striking range. Glitchtrap prepared his host body to pounce.
As Glitchtraps host body pounced, the human sitting in front of him shifted to one side, causing Glitchtrap to briefly react in horror. His host body was pouncing right at the brazier in the center of the circle of humans- and it was too late for him to change his trajectory. The host body plunged right into the flames, and Glitchtrap found his host body landing right in the middle of the flames, the host body suddenly reflecting- no practically glowing- a threatening range of reds, oranges, and yellows- almost as if he were directly on fire. The humans, who hadn't paying attention, jumped in fright and all stared at Glitchtraps host body, startled by the loud thud of the host body landing in the middle of the burning wood pile stacked up in the center of the brazier. Trying to make the best of a bad situation, Glitchtrap made the host body stand upright, and unsheathed its claws, cutting loose a deafening roar-scream, "BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!", his arms flailing around like crazy as the host body started to thrash in pain. The effect was greater than Glitchtrap could have imagined- half the camp erupted into chaos. In the din of confused and panicked people reacting badly to such a brazen intrusion, Glitchtraps host body jumped out of the flames and retreated into the night, wordlessly howling in pain. As Glitchtrap lost control of his host body, he mentally laughed. Even though the start of his new reign of terror hadn't gone as planned- it had gone better than he had expected it to.
