Description

This was one of those redesigns that... well it was clear what it could be redesigned into at first glance. I admit that at least part of why I'm drawing redesigns of the Rescue Riders and Nine Realms dragons is that I'm just doing it for fun. There are also some cannon designs of these dragons which have grown on me and a few that I liked on first sight as well as the ones that I look at and think "Hmm... I'd like this dragon better if it was redesigned."

The issues I had with the original design were:

- It looked... bland compared to the other Rescue Riders Dragons, in fact it looked bland to the point of sticking out like a sore thumb!

- Its armor didn't look like armor, and wound up looking more like some weird pattern of skin folds and ridges...

- Its proportions just looked off, and not in a good way...

The Silverclawed Irontail is now a Razorwhip Moldruffle Hybrid, as people have seen it as possibly being. This dragon is now capable of launching fireballs that are capable of causing devastating explosions on impact, which is fortunately countered by it having a fairly low shot limit. To make up for its low shot limit, this dragon has a number of tricks up its sleeve. For a start, the armor on its back and its tail spines are razor sharp, and it's now capable of biting its own tail and rolling around like a scaled up, and fairly unhinged saw blade. Its tail is also deceptively strong for being so long, and is capable of denting, or even piercing through iron plating depending on how it uses it... hence the "Irontail" part of its name. The Silverclawed Irontail is also capable of setting itself on fire and divebombing its opponents... or combining its fire jacket with its rolling attack. Its head now only sports three horns, and is reinforced by armor plating, giving it some protection against blunt force trauma. It also has a ram like skull- with complicated and elastic sutures to further absorb the force of its devastating headbutts. Add to that that this dragon can swing its own head like a battle axe to deal damage, and has razor sharp teeth... and you (sort of) have one of the closest dragon equivalents to an Allosaurus. This devastating attack is enhanced by the dragon having long, strong neck muscles. Additionally, the Silverclawed Irontail is capable of launching the spines on its tail at opponents with incredible precision and accuracy. An interesting feature of its physiology is that its horns are hollow, allowing it to communicate by slamming its horns against rocks. This causes the horns to ring like bells, and the sounds produced can be heard from miles away. The combination of Razorwhip and Moldruffle has lead to this dragon having an... interesting personality and social life. This is one of the few dragons to live in prides, much like lions, with a majority female pack, and a few dominant males. Adult male Irontails will fight for control of a given pride, and if a new dominant coalition takes over the pride, they will destroy any eggs or kill any hatchlings born to the previous dominant male... usually by eating them. That being said, females will fight ferociously to defend their nests and young, and have been known to band together to kill usurper males. The Silverclawed Irontail is also known to hunt other dragons, and have an overall aggressive and mistrusting personality, which probably grew out of the Razorwhip side of the family. However, once trained, a pride of individuals may become docile around humans and show an attraction to shiny objects and fast movement, much like a colony of overgrown domestic cats. They're also well known for rolling around on beaches, presumably to scratch parasites off their scales and keep their armor polished to a silvery sheen. They're one of the few dragons which will eat pretty much anything... short of eating rocks and metal, though they show a marked preference for sea slugs and shellfish.
