Description

The next day saw Wall.e trying to return to work despite a downpour. She found it practically impossible- her mind kept wandering back to E.v.e., and to the big misunderstanding that had gotten the two of them off on the wrong foot. Still, she tried to carry out her directive, compacting and stacking cubes of trash until she could stand it no longer. She ended up sitting down in the torrential rain, dejectedly staring at a trash cube as her mind ran in circles, tied itself up in knots, and vexed itself trying to solve her problem. Rivulet curled up beside her in the rain, purring wholeheartedly. Wall.e began to pet her, envying the simplicity of Rivulets situation. She felt as if she'd both gotten somewhere and nowhere with E.v.e. at once. In the distance, E.v.e. sat on a ledge, halfheartedly trying to shelter from the rain. Her shelter was inadequate, and she was getting soaked as well. Wall.e just barely heard E.v.e. grumbling over the rain and assumed that it was just something else- her stomach perhaps. It wasn't until she just made out the phrase, [Not your rain!], and Rivulet suddenly ran off that Wall.e realized who was grumbling. Then she started- what if Rivulet ran into E.v.e.?!?

Wall.e ended up spending the rest of the rainstorm searching for the slugcat, who seemed to be nowhere to be found. She started grumbling under her own breath as she searched the streets for Rivulet, the rain still coming down in buckets. Eventually, the sky cleared, and Wall.e was now able to see more than a few feet in front of her. She then heard a squeak which sounded like the Rivulet. Wall.e headed in that direction- and gasped.

The Rivulet was sitting right in front of E.v.e.- who scanned the slugcat. Wall.e then watched in horror as E.v.e. suddenly whipped out her arm cannon and fired it straight at the Rivulet. She ended up ducking behind a pile of tires as the blast hit. Then, terrified, she peeked back out from behind the old tires. The Rivulet clambered out of the crater unscathed. E.v.e., fascinated, retracted her arm cannon, and instead unsheathed her claws, which she held out like a set of fingers. The Rivulet scrambled up her arm, and started scurrying around her body. E.v.e. giggled- the Rivulets running tickled! Wall.e couldn't help but laugh with her- E.v.e. had the most wonderful and infectious fluting laugh-

The thought vanished in a sudden explosion. Wall.e ran behind two more tire piles, which promptly blew up as well. In a panic, Wall.e screamed and curled up into a frightened ball. She shuddered as the sound of approaching footsteps drew near. She looked up to see E.v.e. standing over her, on top of an intact trash pile, her arm cannon pointed directly at her, but not primed to fire. It seemed as of E.v.e. was no longer sure Wall.e was a threat, but still felt hostile. Nervously, Wall.e uncurled and stood back up, keeping her eyes glued on E.v.e.. In the evening light, and the have of smoke, E.v.e. somehow seemed even more radiant than before, the Rivulet perching on her arm only served to heighten the contrast. Wall.e just barely squeaked out, [Sorry...] as she held out her own hand- and retrieved the Rivulet from E.v.e..
