Description
The Grimborn Tribe's weaponry to be more specific. This tribe spends most of its onscreen tenure being lead by Viggo Grimborn (and part of it being jointly lead by his brother, Ryker Grimborn), before being taken over by Krogan and forced to serve Drago Bludvists army. Compared to the Berkian diversity of weaponry, their weaponry seems less diverse and more oriented towards fighting dragons specifically. A little bit about each weapon:
Dragon Root Arrows- An arrow with concentrated dragon root extract smeared on the tip, used as a means of overloading a dragons senses and disorienting them in preparation for capture.
Dragon Root Bolt Launcher- This appears to be a larger, more cannon like variant of crossbow, much like Hiccup's independent invention- the mangler... except that it shoots dragon root tipped bolts, not bolas.
Spiked Bow- This type of bow is likely based off the recurved bow with some extra flair. The copper spikes fixed to the arms of the bow may be last resort melee weapons for a desperate dragon hunting archer... or they may just be decorations showing who made the bow.
Copper Machetes- This particular type of machete has spines along the non-cutting edge- perhaps to enable it to function as some form of sword breaker without sacrificing the cutting power... it may also be a symbol of status, as only Ryker is seen wielding these machetes and he's Viggo's right hand man.
Daggers- Viggo is seem using these a few times during Race To The Edge- most notably to attract a skrill and stir up a submaripper in two separate episodes... this appears to be the same design of dagger used by other viking tribes throughout the series.
Jewel Encrusted Sword- Viggo is seen wearing and using this sword in particular... design wise, it bears a resembelance to the Roman Gladius, having a wide blade with a rounded tip, although it had a circular crossguard encrusted with rubies, which weighs down the blade end and makes it harder to use the pommel of the sword as a counterweight... unless the pommel is made out of a dense metal of some sort.
Flaming Sword- Viggo's invention, inspired by and in turn inspiring Inferno, with some improvements- this particular flaming sword has a telescopic retracting blade soaked in a canister full of Monstrous Nightmare gel, and a second canister that spurts Hideous Zippleback gas out the other end... the ignition device seems to be the blade itself once lit.
Copper Axe- This design of axe was rarely if ever seen in Race To The Edge- it has a cool design nonelethess... I can't help but wonder what the spikes on the bottom edge of the beard are used for...
Crossbow- Hey, this weapon appears to be widespread as well... in the Grimborn Tribe's case, I assume that they have a butt load of these because they want to have a lot of trained archers while saving on training costs, which makes some amount of sense from a business perspective...
Dragon Proof Cage- This isn't so much a weapon as a means of keeping dragons restrained once captured... they make a lot of these cages, and in the shows, they typically use a simple latch device to lock the door, while School of Dragons went with a more complex combination lock that required a viking trying to unlock one to figure out the specific combination of runes within a set amount of time.
