Description Biography of a Griffon

Prologue

Notes of Sigmund Grannedel,
Concerning magical creatures known as Griffons. Part three of one.

A magical creature of somewhat curious nature, the Griffon is a magical paradox. The common Griffon feeds of magical energies that naturally occur in all living things, since all life has at least a smattering of magic in its creation. Its stomach breaks down the meaty or pulpy substance and absorbs the magic, fueling it much the same way a human would derive substance from an apple for example. This incredible ability to break down any living substance makes them adaptable to all but the most inhospitable places in creation.
Concerning the types of Griffons. There are four known types of Griffons on this world. The most common and well know griffon, the Golden Griffon, consists of a lion’s body adorned with the head and wings of a grand golden eagle. The Golden Griffon stands close to four feet tall with a length of seven feet, an impressive size for any creature to be sure.
The other three lesser known griffons include the Panther Griffon, the Draconian Griffon, and the Potter Griffon.
Panther Griffons are the same size as the common Golden Griffon, replacing the lion’s body with that of a panther. Its diet, as well, appears to differ from that of your average Griffon, focusing more on the meat portion of the food spectrum. Whether there is an actual reason for this abnormal food preference remains to be seen.
The third Griffon race, the draconian version, is the largest of all Griffon types, easily dwarfing the others by at least twice the usual size. A draconian griffon stands easily 8 feet in height with a body of 17 feet in length, bearing large silver draconic faces and wings and manes of dark pitch blues continuing down the tips of the rump where its splits of into seven blue tails tipped with silver streaks amid the blue on the tail tufts.
The last type of Griffon and the most peculiar is the Potter Griffon. A potter griffon stands only two and a half feet tall, with only a four to four and a half foot length. The golden eagle parts of the potter griffon are replaced with those of a red tailed hawk and a burgundy and red rust colors mixture for its fur and wings. This Griffon is easily the smallest of its brethren, but what it lacks in size its makes up for in intelligence. The average Griffon is unable to communicate any other way than through gruff screeches. Potter Griffons, on the other hand, are capable of telepathic communication with any other sentient being, but prefer to address only other griffons or beings of similar intelligence. Potter Griffons are aptly named for their odd habit of making mounds of clay before they bed down for the night. The mound size is unimportant; the colors on the other hand, seem to communicate the over all felling of the Griffon group, with each color representing a feeling.
This makes Potter Griffons the only intelligent animals other than humans to express care, affection, hatred and other feelings. A truly remarkable find indeed.
