Description
why can't you sleep at night?is it the monsters in the closet?
no i reply, its the monsters out here,
here in the real world
where it can hurt and maim and deprive.
its the rapist picking his next victim,
the woman selling herself to feed her children.
its the drug dealer on the corner with a new customer,
he's twelve, he lives on the street.
he once had a name,
it doesnt matter anymore does it?
its the man beating his wife while his two children look on,
they dont understand.
its the alcoholic who forces his son to work to keep food on the table.
so look out there and think.
its happening as i write.
why does it exist you ask?
because good men do nothing.

Wow, I love this piece. It's so harsh and it reminds me of a song by Staind, which talks about almost the exact same issues, can't remember the title now though.
When you come to think about it, it's really true. People create their own comfortable oblivion. Good men do nothing. It doesn't matter as long as it's not in our faces and if it is, we sympathize for a little while and then forget about it. How CAN we sleep at night knowing there are twelve year olds shooting up? Women getting beaten up and selling themselves for lack of another way out? Little ones on the street with empty stomachs?
I think about this stuff all the time. It's like at the back of my mind. But, like most other people, I choose to ignore it. Doesn't it make you loathe yourself?
An excellent poem.

You put it very bluntly, but in a manner that's not too harsh. Definately gets the message through. ;_; Is sad. *sniffles* Lovely writing skills, *nodnods*.

That is so..just..SAD.
*weeps* Beautiful writing atlee..Bold and blunt..
It drives something deep into my heart.
It opens the blinds that each of us try to let down to shade our blemished purity from the world.
Good men..sometimes a fable it seems.
Nice piece! ^^

Luckily my mom has been retired after close to 10 years of the job. It can do things to you. My stepdad works the nightshift in Orlando, and I worry that one night he won't come home.
They aren't that strict though, much to the surprise of my friends. I think they're actually much more "cool" about things than most parents are. ^^ When they paid a visit to my Criminal Justice class everyone expected a couple of stern, boring cops.. but they had the class laughing with stories. And when not laughing, it was dead quiet as we listened intensely to the more sombering stories.
I shall stop rambling.

That's very true. Both my parents are cops, so I always hear the stories. I try not to listen though.

Duuuuude, it doesn't keep me up at night (though it probably should) but it's so true! Our world is pretty sad. . . Butcha gotta look at the good stuff, too, sometimes.
