Asexual Awareness Week 2014 begins now, so let's start off with the most common and most ignorant thing to say to an asexual (like me)....This one is so ignorant, it really doesn't need an explanation.

[omg, yes, another asexual like me. I had someone tell me that asexuality was not real and that it was an issue of mental retardation. Mind you, this was during my biology class. The whole class turned and looked at him until the girl sitting to the right of him punched him in the arm and threw him out of his seat. I watched the little fight like it was my guilty pleasure.

It's Asexual Awareness Week? I ... didn't even know this was a thing. XD; But then I don't really give my sexuality much thought as it is so I guess I wouldn't know there was an awareness week for it anyways.
I've ... actually never gotten this one yet. Just the usual "you'll change your mind/how do you know you just haven't found the right person yet?", or being stared at like I have an eyeball hanging out of my socket when they find out I have no interest in sex or babehs. |D

I've already had someone tell me that asexuals don't exist and that we're just "voids"...They literally called me a void. So I laughed it off by using sarcasm: "DOH! YOU CAUGHT ME! YEP, I ADMIT IT! I'M A VOID OF NOTHINGNESS! YOU MAY NOW ALL CALL ME VOID-WORLDY!" and then they backpedaled with "That's not what I meant!"

My mom thinks it's the same thing as celibacy and that I'm just selfish and "coming out" for attention and stealing terms away from gay-people.

Waaaaaatttttttt? That's, just ... no? I don't think the gay people have to worry about having anything "stolen" from them any time soon. Most people don't even know WTF asexuality IS(I sadly do not make small clones of myself). :T

That's exactly what I tried to tell her...I'm coming out because I wanted to see reactions/see how many recognize it, as hardly anybody knows what the fuck it is. And my mom seems to think she knows what it is, when she really doesn't. That was pretty damn clear with the giant insulting argument she gave me about it this past weekend...

This is part of the reason I don't bother trying to explain my sexuality to family. They just know that I'm never going to breed and that seems to work just fine. XD
