Description
My Bioshock needle for and I's Bioshock cosplay. We'll be doing Tenenbaum's safehouse (little sisters and all) and some FontainexTenenbaum photos, the needle will be used in both shoots. Here's the colour reference: [link]
Also shows the real structure of the bottle.
Terrible picture I uploaded, there are more details to it when you see it in person. Plus it isn't quite done
HOW TO MAKE AN ADAM NEEDLE IN LESS THAN 10 DOLLARS CANADIAN.
-Buy a gas pump at a garage sale for five dollars.
-Buy a knitting needle with a large, unremovable end (on the non-sharp end)
-Get two metal washers
-Get a bottle of baby food or small jam
-Pick up some metallic acryllic paint (I got mine for one dollar a bottle.)
-Buy a bottle of gatorade.
And that's all this is made out of.
What I did was I glued the needle end to the washer, and stuck the washer inside the shaft. Then I painted the needle gold.
Next, I took the bottle. I lucked out, it's a bottle that's actually from 1949. It has an old, metal, screw-on cap.
It's a common misconception that the bottle is small and square-rish - It's actually about the size of a small jam jar (or a baby bottle), cylindrillical. So that's the one that I used.
The Adam is made out of gatorade with a small daub of black watercolour paint. It makes it dirty but allows it to keep its fluorescence. In light, it's still very bright. It has specs of dry paint inside it to give it the "second hand" look. Splicer blood, yum yum?
I'm still missing the nipple, but who knows, it could be Jack's needle he stabs Fontaine with, it doesn't have one.
All I did next was glue on the bottle to the second metal washer and, presto. Paint and go.
It looks much better in real life, you can see the bloody fingerprints and dirt. The reason it's still a WIP is that I want to apply some finish to it, and put on the nipple. Then it will be finished.
It's about 0.7 metres long, and pretty heavy. It's made out of solid metal. Even the knitting needle I used is pure steel. Very heavy but very resilient. The paint sticks to it, even when held for a long time. Very nice.

Question..how did you get the Adam bottle to stick to the end? I am ordering my own soon, and I keep encountering the problem of how that stays on.

I just used hot glue (though it falls off a lot), but silicone is the best. Or 5 minute epoxy would work in a pinch, I suppose Don't think that dries clear, though.

No way, I need to go buy some epoxy or silicon then! 8D
What about the part connected to the gas pump itself? I see that with every one making one of these, but I have NO IDEA what it is, lol.

On mine, the gas pump actually has a raised hexagonal chamber that connects to.... two metal washers stacked and glued on top of eachother, and the lid of a 1950's nail jar painted silver. xD;; Looks good, and very easy to make. Hope it helps!

Yeah, some people are using clay. I think I should just get my gas pump first and then ask questions later. I've been having a hard time on ebay lately, always getting outbidded and not being able to bid back, lol.

XD Meaning it already is amazing and it being any better seems physically impossible without creating some kind of paradox.

To be honest, I would sell to you gladly. Unfortunately I have to give the pump back to the person I borrowed it from in November... But if you can find a pump, they're super easy to make ^__^
Thanks for the fave. 8D
