Description
Challenge 5 for the Brainstorm group! The theme was Blade Runner.
I thought it was interesting that the replicants in the film were made out of organic substance and I thought it would be fun to imagine how they would be build.
I pictured a kind of 3D printer, where there's a flat surface that slowly goes up while organic matter is released into the basin by the 6 faucets on the edges. The organic matter (DNA) moves through the liquid to find its correct position and gets 'glued' to the rest of the body by the laser around the edge of the table. This process would continue and the replicant would slowly emerge from the liquid, like a print from a SLA 3D printer.
I tried adding movable parts to the machine so it would feel alive when active, like the Voight-Kampff machine while monitoring.

Yeah exactly, or at least my interpretation of it. I thought it would be fun to imagine the 'building' process in a mechanical and organic way. I figured maybe some stuff (like the eyes) would be put in later (as the movie shows that those are designed seperately). Or maybe the eyes were just designed seperately, but then all build in the same growth tub. I dunnow

hmmm, well tyrell handles genetics, and he could synthesize the proteins that code for organ development, so really he wouldn't need the eye guy, in a biological standpoint. This is all under assumption that technology is advanced enough for that. It's be like a different 'sect' of stem cell growth, but instead of manipulating embryonic cells, Tyrell could simply focus on the codons for each protien. I don't know if his knowledge included mRNA, but he could make a Replicant all by himself.

That is amazing. I love Blade Runner, have you ever read the book it was based on? It's different but still really good.

WouterGort This piece is brilliant right down to the UI design for the screens, you've earned yourself a follower.
ps: I'd love to see a graphic novel in this style.
