Description
Red fox (vulpes vulpes, liska obecna) from Pasíčka, station for animals, who are handicaped or who simply can not survive in the wild; Czech republicNEWEST PHOTO -----> ADORABLE BABY WOLVES!
Story of the photo: this fox has only one eye. It was found in the forest. Expersts say that some myslivci probably used this fox to train their dogs, although it is illegal. One-eyed fox fortunately has a nice home and lovely care now... It lives in a big cage with two other saved red foxes, they have some grass and tree trunks there, comfortable looking boxes to hide and very tasty looking meat. When I saw them, fur of all three foxes was literally shining and foxes seemed very relaxed. I was very satisfied when I saw their living conditions. I bet they have nice lives now
EDIT: I am NOT the one who blame the myslivci! EXPERTS from the station say that. The fox has also NO teeth and there are probably more indications, that myslivci did this to the fox. But stop flaming me for just publishing the opinion of the experts
EDIT NO.2: HONESTLY, PEOPLE - SPEAKING ABOUT SOMETHING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MAKES YOU LOOK A BIT STUPID
about ,,IT WAS NOT INJURED BY DOGS, AS NO INJURIES ARE VISIBLE" - I saw a baby fox few days ago, who was brought by myslivci THEMSELVES, and they THEMSELVES said that their dog hunted and injured the fox kit. Fox was injured only few hours ago. And still I had to hold the baby in my arms to be able to touch and feel the injuries. They were all hidden under her SUMMER fur, so no photos show them. Fox in the picture is in her FLUFFY WINTER FUR. So your theory ,,myslivci's dogs did not do it, because no scars are visible" is very naive, as fluffy fur could hide EVERYTHIG.
So again, better not comment, because you know nothing about myslivci

INFO ABOUT THE ANIMAL:
Name: Red fox (vulpes vulpes)
Location: red fox is native to North America, whole Europe, whole Asia, north Africa and it was introduced to Australia
Size: 100 cm long body + 45 cm long tail, 40 cm high weight: 12 kg

Conservation status: Least Concern (the most common carnivora)
Interesting facts: red fox can hide its food to find it later | usually five cubs are born blind and helpless in the burrow | foxes have many colour variations: usually – ginger-red, but also black or silver, Unfortunately, red fox is kept by fur farms and some ----- torture them just to gain their fur. Red foxes are also hunted by so called ,,sportmen“ | red foxes suffer from rabies | red fox is considered to be vermit | red foxes produce pretty weird sounds XD | foxes in the wild live only some 4 years, but they can reach 12 years in captivity
Enemies: golden eagles, gray wolves, cougars, lynxes, coyotes, badgers, wolverines
Legend: foxes play important role in many myths and legend. Due their inteligence, they have become symbol of slyness and cunning. They are also very popular animals, who have role in many fairy tales. In the Czech republic, author Rudolf Tesnohlidek wrote very famous book about very clever hand-rised vixen called Bystrouska. I loved that book and also it funny happy end!

People should stop saying a dog attacked it. It would have scars everywhere if a dog had got it properly. Humans must have done this; the eye has no scars around it and that indicated it wasn't scratched or bitten out.
Good job, Woxys, give the know it alls what for.

oh. I hold a baby fox in my arms, which was 100% attacked by dogs, because dogs hunted it. The hunters THEMSELVES brought the fox to my friend and they used the dogs to hunt that fox. That baby was in its SHORT SUMMER FUR and still no injuries were visible. She WAS injured, I could feel her injuries under my fingers, but fur covered them. She was injured only few hours before I hold her, but still no injury was visible, as fur covered them. And it was SHORT SUMMER FUR.
This fox is in her LONG WINTER FUR. Its body can be full of scars, just hidden under fur.

But on their muzzle you'd expect to see some scars. I mean the fox in this image; it doesn't seem to have been savaged by dogs.

it has winter fur. It can cover everything.
Also, the baby fox injured by dogs had something like a scar on its nose - but it is not visible on photos.
Please, do not judge whole the situation and reality through ONE stupid photo taken from distance..

I'm not, i was agreeing with you...
I'm sorry if it seemed I was questioning it but in reality I was agreeing with what you said about people judging the situation when the experts know whats going on.

oh, thanks for saying that! so many people think they are wiser than experts and that they can judge the situation better than them - just through looking at this ONE photo! XD I can not believe how many people said that

Beautiful fox... it is so sad. No matter WHAT happened, it's still so very heart wrenching. I'm glad there are people who will take them in and treat them. I don't think there are places like that where I live. You have to take them to the vet, but the vet won't even look at them unless you pay first. That's why my cat died... she was hit by a car but I didn't have any money at the time and they wouldn't even see her.

Poor girl. Fox hunting was supposedly banned here in the UK in 2005 but carries on regardless, laws don't apply to the rich. At least us hunt saboteurs are here to protect some of the foxes from getting ripped apart.

I think that fox hunting is legal, but not "traditional" fox hunt with dogs...?

Hunting with hounds was banned here but still goes on. I think shooting is legal. Neither's right.

Lovely fox. I love foxes too. It is a very sad story but luckily someone care and those animals can find their home, different from their natural one but still a safe place.
As to your "myslivci"... as far as I know (and you did mention that before) the rough translation is just "hunters". But you also mentioned that there is no English tranlastion for this Czech word. So... they are hunters... but they are not hunters. What make them be different from hunters? I am Polish and I know what Mysliwcy are. They are simply hunters which should act in accordance with the law (so I guess as you tried to explain- care for the forest) so don't kill protected species, don't kill to many, kill in specific time (not in the mating season etc), report killed animal and so on. If they do otherwise, they are illegal hunters or we could call them poachers (kłusownicy). So what is the story with your "myslivci". What make them be different from hunters?
Cheers!

I don't mean to be obnoxious; but I think it's best to hear from you(because internet searches CAN give out wrong information), since you have such a large knowledge of your living area(considering you live there ) ; what are/is Myslivci? ._.;;

sure, it is a Czech word - but problem is, that it does not have English translation, which would fit the meaning. Those are simply not hunters... Also, when I use word hunters, local trolls are activated *BIG facepalm*

That's bound to happen; I don't particularly mind hunters so long as it's not for sport. People mess up the foodchain, so it's kinda only right that we do a little bit of something to keep it in good flux. But hunting can also be a way of life, earning your food, and becoming an adult through it; Various reasons. Though it still saddens my heart that things have to die.

lol. what exactly do you know about myslivci? TELL ME.
also: few weeks ago, I hold a baby fox, who was brought by HUNTERS, as their dog HURT the kit, when they HUNTED it. Myslivci ITSELF brought the kit, saying their dog hurt it. The baby was hurt only FEW hours ago. It was in its SUMMER fur. But still no injury was visible. I had to keep it in my hands to be able to feel the injury under her fur.
This fox was in her fluffy winter coat. It could totally hide all the injuries.
I need no respect from people, who know NOTHING about myslivci and they still feel the urge to spread their weird comments. So again, what exactly do you know about MYSLIVCI?
I also love your ,,raccon removed her teeth" theory, it is amazing!

learn about myslivci, then come back and apologize, my dear ,,I love to talk about things I know nothing about"
Bye.

Poor creature... well I'm really glad this fox is being taken care of properly now.
As for all the morons who think they're smarter than these experts, just don't even listen to them. There could be any number of ways this fox lost an eye. And with experts working with it, if they think that's what happened, they can tell from the fox's personality and interactions with other people. Psychology, people. It works. I mean they can't know for sure, but there's a pretty good chance they're right.

thanks
the best part is ,,It was not a hunter, who hurt this fox - it was a racoon!" - which proves that those morons are really idiots and they do not even know about which part of the worlds they speak ---- racoons are American, not European animals
And with experts working with it, if they think that's what happened, they can tell from the fox's personality and interactions with other people. ---- EXACTLY!!!! It was not only about injury

KRaven42 In reply to woxys [2011-06-18 23:29:07 +0000 UTC]
Alrighty then.
That's actually pretty funny. Since raccoons don't live in Europe in the first place.
Yes!!! And I'll be learning about all this stuff in detail in the next four years, as I have a lab rat for my psych major. We have to observe their behavior and teach them to do things. I'm so excited. (Domesticated) rats are adorableee, and animal psychology is just as interesting as human psychology.
