EDIT:Huh... apparently this made it onto EqD. That explains a lot. Thanks to whoever nominated it.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...and so we fled our home, abandoning it to the oncoming storm, and in our great ships we gave ourselves, wandering to the cosmos.
We found a new world in the depths of space; a cold world, far from any star, and to that bit of ice and rock we brought light and life: a rising sun, a setting moon and in our own mastery of the universe we basked; until how we had come to this new home was lost to eternity for all except a very few... and the truth of how it survived became little better than magic...

GIANT STARSHIPS!
...and ponies. Because I could.
Been awhile since I drew either, so it seemed like the thing to do; and maybe get some environment practice to boot. Spaceship very much inspired by the old "Terran Trade Authority" books, which were such a part of my teenage years.

Mate, you are free to interpret it any way you want...
I do have a second picture planned to go with this one which might help fill in some of the blanks (but certainly all of them, and not that one... but it's a little way down the track yet.

So that's where they came from! Yeehaa, my Pony theory was correct!
This is quite the awesome work that reminds me of the Analog magazine covers from the late 1960s. The last 'colony ship' book I read was "Rogue Ship", great plot but no crash landings.
On a side note, I haven't heard of "Terran Trade Authority" before, I'll have to go look that up.
Nice to see you again, by the way. How are things at your end?

Yeah... and now I have this whole sci-fi story floating around inside my head.
I love those 1960's/70's space ship designs: I miss them, along with the more I guess, "real physics" environment which seemed to go with.
And definately look up the TTA books. The one I have is called "Space Base 2000", which was something of an omnibus collection: they date back to the 70's. Brilliant illustrations and love the stories. My highschool had a copy in the library and I'd spend litterally hours leafing back and forward through it until I knew it just about by heart. The old ones are getting pretty collectible now, but I think they've been recently re-issued.
Heh... yeah... I've been horribly slack on the dA front of late Put it down to being busy with work and busy with writing (I have a tendency to set myself deadlines which are just slightly more optimistic than what I can comfortably achieve as a form of motivation): unfortunately free-time to just mooch here is at a premium.
So yeah; life is good but busy.
How goes things in your part of the world?
