The scene takes place on a cloudy night, with the moonlight barely peaking out over the trees on the horizon. The main lighting is coming from the Faerie's feelers, and the multitude of Fireflies in the grove. As for the Dragon seeming lifeless, I don't get why you say that... She's obviously enjoying the show, as evidenced by the smile on her face as she watches the Faeries play. My guess is that this particular grove is her favorite place to coil up and relax at night!
