Description

Trinkette is not Rarity a twinkle-eyed pony equipped with disguise magic. She lives just on the cusp of Paradise Estates in a small but impressive cottage of shimmering stones she calls “Dream Castle”. Inside she spends her time collecting, organizing, and pawning beautiful, rare items. She’s dragged into Starwish’s adventures via her connection to Tagalong Tex, one of her closest friends and her biggest (unrequited) crush.

Trinkette is a sight to behold (in her own words.) Indeed, she’s often awed by the populace of the hamlet for her beauty, scathing wit, and lightfootedness. She has the build of a stuffed animal, all soft and squishy under her bangles and trimmings. Outwardly, she thinks very highly of herself and will never miss a chance to comment on other ponies’ appearances, hobbies, lifestyles, etc. Sometimes this means she’s… bitchy, especially if she has a vendetta against someone and wants to exploit their insecurities for her own sake.

That’s Trinkette’s problem. She’s deathly insecure, and no matter how much kitschy ornamentation she drowns herself in, she can’t escape the feeling that she’s not as good as everyone else, especially her adventure loving friends. See, twinkle-eyed ponies are a rarity (ha) in Everlast Valley. They have customs unlike those of most other ponies, so many of them are familiar with being alienated out of ignorance and/or malice. That’s why Trinkette always ego-punches others when she can. She wants to prove that despite being a twinkle-eye, she’s just as good as any other horse living down the street. Tex’s unconditional support of her is one of the reasons she hasn’t cracked yet. It also helps that big sibling ponies and twinkle-eyes have a longstanding historical alliance, but that’s a story for another time.

Trinkette’s disguise magic is a facet of what’s known as “stealthcasting”, a rare gift that’s mostly found in unusual races like twinkle-eyes and flutter ponies. This particular ability allows Trinkette to transform into anything, be that another animal or a plant or an object, that she’s familiar with. The more familiar she is with a subject, the better her transmogrification is. Size is not an issue; so long as she has the energy to expend on it, she can potentially transform into something as large as an elephant or as small as an ant.

Like all magic, her gift has its limitations. For one, as said, her transformation is based on her personal knowledge about a subject. e.g. if she’s under the impression that an animal is blue, she’ll be blue, even if the animal is actually red. Also, she only gains the appearance of whatever she transforms into, not its biology or abilities. If she’s disguised as a tiger, she doesn’t gain its strength. If she’s being a bird, she can’t suddenly fly. She is limited by her own, well, limitations. This makes her good for distractions, but not very good in a duel. Best she just sneak or bluff her way through a sticky situation.
