Description
Long time no see, guys. I've been flat out, work has been taking up a large portion of my time these days(same as everyone else!) and my own personal output has diminished greatly T__Tanyway, I've been working on this bookplate design piece over a couple of weekends, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Heavily influenced by a couple of my favourite artists of the Art Deco & Art Nouveau periods; Gustav Klimt and Alphonse Mucha. There was also a Taisho Art exhibition in Sydney recently which I went to check out, which was fantastic! When the Orient meets Deco the results are just beautiful
But yeah, those influences and my undying love for this game resulted in this picture hahaha. Fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series will probably be able to pick out the DSRK elements as well as the Nocturne elements. I'm such a big nurd.
All digital. I drew Raidou in Mangastudio, and the rest of the elements were drawn and coloured in Photoshop.
Kuzunoha Raidou Β© Kazuma Kaneko & Atlus games.

The designs and ascetics are amazing. It also feels like something from the 1920's fitting the scenery of the Raidou games.Β

This is incredible! I love how even though I can see the influences of Klimt and Mucha, it's still such a fresh, original piece! All your detailing is absolutely lovely, beautiful work!

Nice Raidou you made. I can see some of the elements from Nocturne in there too. This I could see as a book mark being sold to fans of the series.

This has such an elegant, stylish feel to it. Raidou is looking very classy, as usual. Kurama Tengu and Baal at the top are my favorite part!

I just wanted to point out that this is probably more Art Nouveau than it is Ex Libris. The style you used here is very Alphonse Mucha--an artist who probably started the movement--aka Style Mucha
I say this because Ex Libris is more of like etching with ink to make intricate and complicated illustrations usually done with bookplates. A friend of mine once said it's very "Rococo" While Art Nouveau is more focused on the handle of color, texture, and giving a warm/sultry feel. Sometimes in black and white, though often with flat colors that play with more with shapes. It even applies to architecture. That's how I understand it at least from what I've learnt.
You can see more examples of Ex Libris art here: [link]
And here's some for Art Nouveau so you can see the difference:
-a website on Gustav Klimit, warning, NWS content
-Polish Art Nouveau site
-Direct link to black and white Nouveau Art
-Same site leading to poster art. I believe this is closest to the style you used here

I recognized the influence of Klimt and Mucha immediately. I love them both. In fact, I love the entire genre. It is a beautiful work. If I have a bookplate that looked like that, it would go in every book I owned--and a few I don't!

Yay for SMT, espec Genma Kurama from Lucifer's Call in the BG. Tis awesome. I also like the discreet candelabrum pattern, all it needs is some gold leaf and its totally Klimt

The result looks great! Good to see you're still active. I'm just impressed you still have time for other commitments after I've learned how much you have to work on per day.
Hmm, I just googled Manga Studio. How would drawing in Manga Studio be different from Photoshop?

I've never played those games myself, but the picture is really awesome! I really like that sort of art noveau style, and I kind of want to do something like that myself. All the framing and patterns and stuff are really cool.
