Description My father in law asked me to make him a small notebook for him to use at work. This was the result.

As always, hand folded signatures. Bound with a Koptic stitch with two simple leather covers front and back. The nice thing about this stitch is that no matter were you open the book, the pages lay flat.

Size is roughly 3.5 by 4.5 inches....... so write small

Thank you

Not exactly what I would call "Sophisticated" though. More of a "rustic" feel for me. This one [link] seems like sophistication to me. more of a traditional leather bound book.

Thank you again

Thank you so much

I haven't found anything yet that I totally fail at, but if it has to do with computers or hands on craftsman type work I usually do pretty well

nice !!! u should set up a few with pagan art and sell them as books of shadows they are the new age craze and quite expensive at times over $1000.oo my old portfolio was a book of shadows i made out of crock print leather and laid medallions under it so when i glued it down u could see them as a 3d impression, with some custom paper my grandfather had got from a private order while working at mead paper it was really cloth like and i have never seen that paper again .. beautiful job on this

Thank you!

Yes I have seen those. Somehow I don't think I could charge a thousand dollars for a book. I certainly wouldn't pay that much!

that is because u can make them so u dont appreciate it as much as someone whos artistic talent lies in poetry or other forms of writing or sketch art.. u gotta set your price high enough that u feel personal assured that the owner will cherish your work of art as much as u do .. true a grand is quite high those books are 18" x 48" and a whopping 4-6 inches thick.. that one u made is only a few inches but i am sure u could make a few of them and get 60-120$. very nice work ( barns n noble has mass produced books not even 1/2 as good and poets, artists, and new age religion flock to them they sell like hot cakes dont doubt yourself be about yourself and get out there who knows maybe a book publishing company will try to buy one someday with all right .. selling all rights is big bucks u can get tens of thousands to give up your right as an artist to your own work .. gotta get out there

Wow! Nice leather work! I would probably keep such a book for something special and not a general write-shit book. :3

He and his daughter (my wife) are both leather carvers. He had some complications from surgery and is unable to carve anymore, but it is very common place in our family. As a result it is not as "special" as it is to those that don't do it themselves.

Thank you for the kind words

all chefs over there?

davidanaandrake In reply to WrenchMan [2011-03-09 02:37:49 +0000 UTC]

not quite, but food is how we socialise and mum used to train chef's so everyone tends to know how to do certain cooking things. Like we all make sauces and "complicated" meals from scratch (my lasagne is to die for, as is my brother's self-saucing chocolate fudge cake ), it's just because that's how we were brought up. :3

yeah I'd say you do know.

Death by lasagna.........what a way to go......

care to note me that recipe? One of my favorite foods.

My mother taught me to cook at a very young age so I am no stranger to a kitchen. And being unemployed I do ALL the cooking around here, but I love to cook too.

Basil leaf, oregano, garlic, onion, tomato puree, skinned tomatoes (I'm lazy and use tinned), good beef mince, stock (I use mushroom stock), olive oil, perhaps some vegies to add mass (I like mushrooms and capsicums). (Start with onions, then brown the mince, add vegies and tomatoes, simmer a little, add puree, stock, oregano and basil leaf, simmer until it's about ready and put in the garlic last (if you really like garlic the less you cook it the more taste is there). Oh and take out the basil leaf.

White sauce has to be done from scratch, melt butter, add flour, brown, cool pot down by dumping in a sink of cold water, add milk, stir, make sure it's the right thickness before it boils (just stir it more if it's too runny). I usually chuck in about a handful of grated cheese (I'm quite partial to edam myself).

Prepare the pasta as per instructions (sometimes you have to cook it before you layer it, sometimes you put it in dry, my gluten free stuff you have to half cook before hand).

Layer with pasta, meat, white sauce, pasta, meat, white sauce. Top layer is pasta, with lots of cheese, chuck on smatterings of other stronger cheeses if you have it. Then I sprinkle the cheeses with a touch of paprika just add a little zing, but not too much as it can get bitter.

Then cook. If the pasta was put in dry you normally have to cook it for longer and the white sauce has to be a little runnier.

Also good with chicken instead of mince, though, you use different herbs and spices, and more vegies in with the chicken to buff it up a little. Vegetarian is harder depending on what you do to replace the meaty bit, I just use big flat mushrooms cut up into long strips and cooked up with vegies and soy sauce or a tomato base sauce. but I hear eggplant lasagne is a little more complicated. I once made a vege lasagne with TVP which is a soy protein thing, but that wasn't as nice because I couldn't mask the odd grainy flavour of the TV without boiling the damn stuff in like a ton of mushroom stock for a long time - far too labour intensive. Lol.

I hope that's what you wanted? Just from memory. :3 otherwise, in a few weeks time I'll be putting up the recipe with basic amounts and some of it's variations on my Kitchen Witch blog.

I haven't put a lot up, yet, as you can see. Lasagne and sushi will be going up soonish. After that, when I have the time, I'm going to try out different kinds of cookies, gluten free, chocolate chip cookies mmmmm I love cooking, it's fun. :3

Well, everything I cook has to be gluten free, so feel free to pass on the linkie to the blog to your friend. On my to do list is gluten free stuff from scratch, like pastry and pasta if I can get a recipe that doesn't need a pasta maker.. and I'll be experimenting with breads too. I'll also be posting the recipes up on their own website and indexed so people can find what they want without wading through a blog. But that's a little while off yet.

Thank you

The absence of a spine helps with that, but it has more to do with the way the signatures are bound than anything.

You mean like a DayPlanner? You don't use a spiral or ring bound one?
