DSL is normally fast right I have the dial up not much at all and it must be the slowest in the world and watching you Tube is out of the question unless I wait for hours and hours.

Wretched--Stare In reply to PaMonk [2014-04-26 19:13:41 +0000 UTC]
Its faster than Dial-up BUT The area or company is unreliable I pay for 7 Mbps but get 1.2 and 5.40 Mbs on a good day its up and down so much. I can watch you tube most of the time.
I had dial up for years, I know the pain of its slowness. But I really want Cable you get 20-30 Mbps that's pretty good.
Dial up opens you up to bad viruses, I got one when I had dial up that made my modem call Madagascar instead of my ISP and I got a $600 phone bill I had to fight after some help from the FBI and FCC I ended up getting out of the mess. Then next day I got DSL and ripped the modem out of my desktop. There are worms called dialer's that change the number your modem calls.
DSL works on the same phone line but uses a different bandwidth to send information so that can't ever happen.
Now computers don't have win-modems inside any more heck my new computer doesn't even have a DVD Disc drive, I had to get a external one to put games on and stuff so I got a Blueray burner drive.
You must have a older laptop or desktop. How is it for rendering, does it take some time? I am sorry for rambling on, I love computers and tech. lol

Oh wow! this all sound scary I hate this dial up we are looking to get Hughes net maybe there is cable Internet 5 home down the round and across the road and down 5 or 6 more homes the other way but they will not put the cable right in this spot where I live I think its due to there mostly renters here and around and move out weekly or monthly all the time I have lived here about 15 years but they will not bring it here in the middle I want cable also Hughes net is very costly if you ask me my Internet company is closing and I have to find another one and there just is not none around except for At&T they are bad news I here my daughter had them and she could not get most times
Yes I have an older computer just an old Dell it does have 2 processors and does some Rending okay except for JWildfire I like that one but my computer is to slow I only have 2 Gig of Memory just enough to run my Photo shop Elements 10 it handles the Paint.Net real good and Gimp and other Fractal program but yes is very much older still using win xp 123 service pack i am getting a new computer this year after I get my New Glasses though they come first with out them i would not be able to see the computer.
And thats okay I like talkng Computer I know some but not all and learn something every day.

Here its just Comcast or Verizon , I would love to switch but I am trapped in contract for now. I wouldn't mind Verizon so much if Fios was in my area.
Oh I see well at least its a dual core, when I started here I had a single core AMD athlon desktop and I suffered for it.
I have a quad core HP ENVY laptop I do my stuff on now.
I hope you get something good, I can recommend some good but cheaper laptops when the time is right for you. I keep in touch with the trends I love tech.
Yes me too , its always changing.

XP to 8 is a big step forward but the windows desktop screen you are used to is there just press the windows button to go back and forth . the only thing really different is it has a start screen now and not the pop-up menu for programs or apps as they are called now.
I played with Windows 3.11 as a kid, my first real computer had Windows 95 on it and then my next two Had Windows 98 SE and I also had a few Apple's a Macintosh SE, powermac G3 with Mac OS 8.6 but i UPGRADED the 98 machine to Windows millennium and had that for a few years When I got XP the computer I had lasted a year it was a Gateway I was offered a new one with XP and a free upgrade to Vista when it came out. I switched to Apple OSX for 2 years but my Macbook pro died. Here is a photo of my old setup from a bunch of years ago I loved tech even then wretched-bones.deviantart.com/…
So now I run both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.1 and have a old desktop server running Linux and Windows Vista.
Well I am rambling but if you need any pointers on Windows 8 let me know and if it is running just 8 you should get the free upgrade to 8.1 and then 8.1 update 1 because it makes it a little bit easier to use and live with.

Oh I know it took me a while to learn the XP and now 8 is has so many little boxes/apps when I first turned it on I had no idea of what to do but I did find a very cool painting program/app that looks like real paints very cool
I first started with an old DOS version 5 and killed it in 5 minutes then went and bought two more used ones and went to the libary and checked out around 10 books about computers it was very thrilling but costly cause I kept killing them but once I learned I got a Windows 95 and went from there
I have never used a apple or anything just the windows and the one DOS Version 5 which I did fix later and sold to a sis -in -law then she killed it again and we revived it not sure what she done with after that.
I can't wait to learn the 8 it looks like so much fun and it has like a trillion bbites or something and over 500 gig hard drive space which I need for Art works. i guess upgrade is that the Windows 8 pro I am not sure its all so new to me but wow you know a lot about the computers I am impressed I know some but would love to learn more.
