Beautiful from a distance. After zooming, I would definitely remove the thin black outline, use more well-placed shadows to make up for it, and clean up some of your rough spots. This piece has a LOT of potential. It's really great!

I agree with you 100%. This is an older piece from when I first started to learn Illustrator but do want to go back an improve it when I have the time.
