It's Rachel from Advance Wars DS! That's right, actual Advance Wars fanart, which as far as I can tell is pretty rare. I don't know why, it's a popular enough series... Anyway, hopefully this Rachel picture will help fill the fanart void.For those who aren't familiar with the series, the missiles in the background are her Super CO Power, in which she calls in three missles from headquarters to deal some damage. Rachel normally seems like an easy-going girl, but when my friend suggested doing that crazy eye-glint assassin thing, it seemed like too good an idea to pass up, even if it didn't seem entirely in character.
Overall, Rachel wasn't much trouble to draw or color, but those missile exhaust clouds were a huge pain. Also, I initially had trouble deciding on a sky color, but when I realized that the picture had lots of white and red, adding blue was the clear choice, since Orange Star is basically the US of Wars World. Now people can't say I've never done a patriotic picture.

Thanks for taking the time to share. I'm glad this old image, and by extension, the poor forgotten Advance Wars series, still brings people enjoyment. And if you learned some art technique from it, even better! Studying the works of artists who have already done what I'm trying to do has always been one of my favorite ways to learn about art, and it's heartening to hear I've finally contributed to learning rather than just absorbed it.

Honestly she can beat anyone and anything with her super CO since she reduces an entire army to scraps for your tanks and mechs.

Yep, it's a very good Super CO power alright, though it's just too bad she doesn't have much going on besides that. Plus, sometimes the missiles aren't -quite- as good if the enemy isn't clumped up very well, or it might be that what they choose to hit isn't what you wanted to weaken the most right this turn. Still, conceptually at least, it's one of my most favorite powers.

Imagine if you could control where the missiles go, then you'd become a god. Other than that she's not good unless you have a commander like Kanbei or Adder to clean up the mess with their super CO power.

Kanbei? I'll mess with him all I want. You always stand a chance against Yellow Comet. Sure, the across the board improvements are nice, but the additional money cost outweighs the stat buff overall. He's a reverse Collin in every way, right down to being a below average CO instead of an above average CO. Only time he's been a problem is those single player campaign maps where things are stacked in his favor, especially if he gets pre-deployed units he never had to pay for at all.
The only good CO in Yellow Comet is Sensei, otherwise they've always been the lamest faction in my opinion.

Yeah, Collin's really really good, but broken? Not sure I'd go that far. Then again, I've never played against another player who was using Collin, so my opinion isn't as well-informed as it could be.

Yeah, if someone can call in a couple ICBMs when they get worked up enough, you definitely don't want them to get worked up. Though, orbital death lasers would be pretty scary too, if Black Hole ever got the kinks worked out. But once again, fancy weapons just aren't worth it if they aren't reliable.
Now that I think about it though, if Sturm were still around, calling down meteors would be pretty scary too. Good thing Hawke (probably) killed him.

Now try picturing in your head the entire AWDS cast in the final battle against Von Bolt and Black Hole, each in their own specialty unit (like Grit would be in a Rocket, Jess would be in a Tank, etc.) with "Sora-iro Days" (the Gurren Lagann opening music) playing as they duel countless enemy forces as a team, explosions rocking the foundations of the planet as far as the eye could see...
Hooooooly shit I should write a fanfic now. I think I just blew my OWN mind. O_O

I have imagined how cool an animated version of Advance Wars would be, believe me. But I always pictured early scenes of Black Hole on the march, crushing all opposition under Hawke's grim command. Super-action scenes later on would be good too though.

Okay, I gotcha. Yes, Orange Star (I wish they would have left it red though) is clearly the US of Wars World, what with the love of intercontinental ballistic missiles. And their COs seem more American than any other nationality. Though it's probably for the best we don't really give teens command and permission to call in a missile strike when they get worked up enough.
