Description Every night, I'd ask God why?
Every night, I'd think He'd lie.
One night, as I needed to talk,
I called my God, my rock.
For once He didn't respond,
“I'm at the pond.”
On God's answering machine
in His home unseen,
He wasn't at home,
so how could He answer His phone?
This was a time, I needed my God.
But apparently, He was abroad.
“Worry not, o child of mine.
By My blood you'll be fine.
I'll send an angel to your aide.
She'll be your guardian for this decade.”
I felt at ease, in His words to me.
But, I wondered still who He'd send to fill
the hole He'd left, when I couldn't reach Him.
I looked for a friend that was heaven sent.
My best friend called me instead.
Freaking out, I said “Girl, keep your head.
What's wrong, are you okay?”
On the phone for hours we stayed,
as she told a story of my demise.
How she'd dreamed I'd died.
How her call, she feared, was to late
to say a final word to her best mate.
I reassured her, since her call
I'd live to see another Fall.
Because she called, I'd live a time
to see her children grown, playing with mine.
I used to look back and wonder a bit
What ever happened to the angel sent?
And then I realize, how stupid I am.
That she was the girl that ran
to my aid, no matter what.
The girl, over me, that made a fuss.
The girl that was a God send.
My best friend.
