If it were kings and queens
To I would need
Nothing but yellow,
So I might paint with gusto.

If it were a peasant man,
Just to show how he was damned,
My canvas would be wrapped in dismay
Painted nothing but grey.

If it were a family
Young, hip and jaunty
Then let me be covered in blue
One colour, with a million hues.

For a pair of star crossed lovers,
Together despite their troubles.
Then, reds and pinks
Like their own lips and cheeks.

But for one single love of my life
I'd paint nothing but that which is ripe.
Or, even, if they'd let me.
I'd paint with the stars, so you won't forget me.
