Located in The Palace of Justice of Brussels
In Brussels, at the top of a large hill is The Palace of Justice of Brussels, which was the largest building in Europe at one time. Being a courthouse, it is open to the public. After spending a Sunday outside writing and drawing in my journal on the courthouse steps... on Monday, I went inside when the building was open. I had an entertaining time explaining to security why I had scissors in my bag (I forgot they were there) so I ended up sharing my travel scrapbook/ journal with them. Very kind people, a good interaction!

Inside the building, there were columns as wide as my two car garage back home. The illusion created by shorter pillars up in the higher reaches of the room made the space look absolutely massive. Judges and workers rushed around in black cloaks and faux-powdered wigs. Desks and benches periodically dotted the room and the people sitting at them were only ants in the vast area around them. As I wandered empty hallways and large halls in the dark (only lighting was from the windows) orchestra music echoed along the marble walls as someone was testing the sound system for a presentation in one of the main halls.

I'll be posting travel photos every Tuesday and Thursday through April! We will continue to explore my time in Belgium 2019 (Anderlecht, Brussels, Verviers, and others)
