Description
Salt was a major wealth in the early kingdoms where Poland is now. We took a tour through the massive tunnels, caves, and underground world. There were massive chapels (as seen here) wooden or carved, statues of royal figures, workers, and more carved out of salt. One chapel is famous for all its salt chandeliers. As you passed through different corridors, massive wooden doors had to be closed and sealed to control the air pressure/ and the wind that would suck through the room when a door was opened. There was an underground lake--so blue--where parties used to be hosted with musicians and boat rides. It was an unbelievable scene.

After this part of the trip, I was inspired for research to delve into underground locations all across Europe. I don't have photographs of these but I walked out of Rome, down a very ancient road to the outskirts of the city: beautiful rolling hills and green fields where there were many catacombs to explore. I went underneath excavated churches, saw ancient homes under homes, under that, and more.

The book I've always been working on takes place underground for quite a portion. I had never been underground except for a few caves that I've come across while hiking in the states. These explorations opened up so many possibilities to me and realizations that my pen never left the page during my travels.
