Description
I had the incredible opportunity and chance to live in Warsaw for a month this summer. I fell in love with the quiet city. I spent my mornings wandering the cobblestone streets of Old Town and my long lunches in the park as I usually wrote until the evening before I went to explore until I couldn't walk anymore.I got to know every nook and cranny of those streets. Every alley was a breath of fresh air as the old brick was silent, rarely anyone except for locals leaving the main streets.
I spent everyday in awe of my surroundings and never grew tired of the possibilities. It's been a month since I left and I am still traveling. But, my mind often floats back to the parks I haunted and all of the wonderful families and friends I came to know. One day, I'll find my feet on those streets again. I know it.
A wonderful start to a long trip, I continue on my way.
I am traveling, writing and working in Europe until December. I post all of my pictures and writings on my website here. I'm putting up a lot of new posts this week while I regather what projects I am working on and prepare for the next stage in my journey.

Have a nice day!
Announcement: just so you know, starting in a few days, I will be traveling without my computer for the rest of the month. I will still have a teeny bit of internet on my phone so I can stop in and say hello or post small things but I will mostly be offline for that time. But always feel free to stop by and say hi on here!

That's great.
I hardly ever hear about it in the modern day.
I know more about it in WW2 then right now, which is kinda sad.

Right, it really is! After WW2 ended, Poland was left to Russia's control/ Communism which angered the country because they never sided with Germany but this decision had a lot to do with thinking they did/ they were under Germany's control so they were banished to this. The people think back on it as a time of being abandoned by the allied countries. It really hurt the country and its people. They fought to throw off the control of the Nazi's during the war but received no help for it (I suggest you look up the Warsaw Uprising--it's so important but I never even heard of it!)

I've heard that before, but thank you for the details.
Poland is a underrated country in my eyes. More people should talk about it's culture and history. Overlooked back then, overlooked now.
Plus from a relatively small country, it sure can fight hard, even if it doesn't win.

Me too.
I honestly feel really bad for the country in many ways.

A wonderful city, both despite and because of its' tumultuous past. Did you see 'Winnie the Pooh street'?

it really was! I went to a few museums to see the rebuilding process and it is insane to see how much work went into it. I also came in thinking I knew a good amount of the history but there are many things I had never heard of that changed the entire picture I had in my mind. Just wow.
I did, I did! I didn't know whey it was there though. I just took a picture of and enjoyed the street sign with Winnie the Pooh and Piglet carved in it.

I was using an online shortwave radio receiver to detect signals from Europe arriving over the Atlantic to USA and Canadian receivers. Detected one signal from Poland that was sending less power than a flashlight. During our afternoon, it was the first signal from Europe, despite other stations sending more power, or closer.
Hope you enjoyed your trip! Most of our buildings in Phoenix, Arizona are less than 100 years old, except for some preserved restaurants downtown. Nice to find architecture so well preserved even after all the past turbulence.
Here are two of those sites I use for studying how far radio signals travel...

Wow, fascinating! I'll have to look into this. That's cool!
It really is amazing. Actually, 80% of Warsaw was completely destroyed in the war. The Nazis made an example of Poland's capital by doing so. There is a lot of history that I recommend you read briefly on such as the Warsaw Uprising during the war. That was something I had never heard of but it was a multiple month effort of the people trying to overthrow the Nazi rule in Warsaw. They lost but it showed the fighting spirit and that the people did not want them there.
The buildings in this picture and everything I photographed in Warsaw was reduced to rubble. During the Communist occupation after the war, almost everything was rebuilt in the 50s (the Communist's way of keeping the citizens busy and showing that they were better than the Nazis since they helped rebuild the architecture even though they were doing a lot of bad to the people too). There were no blueprints left of the original buildings so everything in the Old Town area was built as exact replicas using old photographs and mostly paintings. Incredible work!
