Description
As part of the curriculum for Bonisteed's Military Academy, all magic-users training to be officers are required to train with swords, as it has been a tradition since the school was first founded. Reluctantly, Elora has agreed to such circumstances as she was recruited specifically for a leadership role in the army. Being a naturally gifted magic-user, the young elf quickly excelled and proved herself competent at her art. While a lot were impressed, many others felt different. Whether out of jealousy or fearing her power, some wanted to knock her spirit down. A chance finally arrived when Elora's regular sword trainer had to stay at home after aggravating an old leg injury from his time in the war. Certain members on the Council quickly arranged for a skilled mercenary to take his place.Around midday, Elora and several others made their way to the outside grounds for sword training. Upon witnessing the Speaker of the Council, Urissa, Elora immediately thought, "Oh no! Why's she here?" An answer to her internal question was given relatively quickly as Urissa introduced a tall and lean man with a thin mustache. "Recruits. I would like you all to meet our new Swordmaster, Theodore Snowbinder. He'll be stepping in to replace Jovadol until he's recovered."
"What happened to Jov?" Elora asked in genuine concern for her mentor.
"Please, Ms. Magdove. Do you have to be so rude when I'm speaking?" Urissa snapped back in a condescending tone.
"I just wanted to know," she shyly expressed as her eyes glanced down. Next moment her fellow students voiced their concern for the missing teacher, prompting Urissa to give a simple explanation about his absence.
Once she finished talking, Theodore thanked Urissa before turning to speak, "I would not be here today teaching ordinary subjects. It is my understanding that Bonisteed Military Academy is one of the best schools in all the Three Continents." Theodore walked over to a wooden practice sword resting in a rack and proceeded to snap it in half with his knee. "I have no need to train students with sticks. If you are to learn from me you shall learn with real steel. I trust you all have chosen a blade?" All the students nodded while saying "yes, sir." Theodore drew out a rapier and pointed it at all the students. "I want you to prove your might. Today you will all be taking turns fighting me."
All the students murmured amongst themselves in disbelief. Urissa suddenly yelled, "I want silence! Mr. Snowbinder is one of the best to ever come out of South Triuze. He has assured me no harm will come to any of you."
Not totally convinced, the students quietly voiced their concerns while fetching their swords. "If he hurts one of us I'll kill that bastard," one student whispered. "He won't be able to take us all on," another added with a grin.
Once they returned with their weapons, Theodore singled out Elora as he pointed at her sword. "What is that?"
"A flamberge," she stated with a shrug.
"You've given it a blessing, right?"
"Yeah, I'm not very skilled with regular swords, so I…"
Theodore held up his hand while interrupting Elora, "I didn't ask for an explanation. I can already guess why. Do you think it'll save you in a battle?"
"I don't plan on going into battle unprepared," she replied with an annoyed expression.
"Of course you'd be the type not to answer my question." Theodore held out his rapier in a controlled pose. "Show me how prepared you are for battle! On guard, young lady," Theodore announced with a devilish smirk.
Elora held the long and curvy shaped blade — the blessing she placed on the sword helped reduce its weight so she could move it around with ease. Remembering the words from her injured mentor, she whispered "don't think, just move" as she charged in to bash Theodore's blade with a heavy clang. The mercenary twisted his rapier around to easily stop her attack. Elora jumped backward and threw her sword up to block the incoming attack as she stumbled from the expert swordsman. Theodore continued to strike, while Elora tried her hardest to block all his savage blows until she couldn't anymore. With a simple flick of his wrist, Elora's flamberge came flying out of her hands to crash point first into the grass. However, Theodore wasn't finished. He lunged forward one last time to swipe at Elora's hips, slicing through both her leather belt and the waistband of her trousers, sending her pants to crash down to her ankles. Finally, the mercenary flicked his blade up to point at her purple top. Theodore laughed triumphantly while smoothing out his mustache with his free hand. "How can you be prepared for battle if you can't keep your pants on?"
The bottomless elf looked down at his blade, feeling a mixture of anger and embarrassment, she remained silent. She then turned over at her fellow students, who all looked away at her humiliating situation.
"Well? Anything to say?" Theodore asked with a smug expression.
Suddenly, Elora noticed Urissa giggling hysterically in the background. She turned back to Theodore as rage filled her eyes. "I do… EAT THIS AND DIE!" Elora shrieked as she awkwardly hopped back with her pants still around her ankles; she held both arms out and fired an intense fireball directly at his face, causing him to drop his sword and scream in pain. Immediately, Elora reached down to pick up her pants and hold them up to her hips to conceal her modesty. She turned around to walk away as Theodore clutched at his face to sense his mustache had been burned off from the attack. The mercenary glared at Elora with crazed intent. He picked up his sword and attempted to stab her in the back, but before he got the chance, Elora's fellow classmates charged at Theodore and knocked him to the ground. Elora turned around to find multiple students pinning Theodore to the ground as he struggled to get up. "He wanted to kill you!" One student shouted at her.
"You can't prove anything!" Theodore shouted. "You have no idea the influence I have."
"If you're referring to me, then don't bet on it!" Urissa said while walking over to confront Theodore. "You have any idea of the punishment I could deal out? I'd be wise if you never returned to this kingdom."
"What about our deal?" He asked with a noticeable growl in his voice.
"The deal is you won't rot in the dungeons. What do you say?"
"When you put it that way, I guess you're just wasting my talent."
With the confrontation over and Theodore removed, Elora's classmates rushed over to see if she was alright. She shyly nodded while glancing down at her broken pants. "I'll be fine once I change into something a little more decent."
