Description
remember rememberthe 5th of November
the gunpowder treason and plot
i know of no reason
why the gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.
flames from [link]
plus fragments of Pieter Bruegel's two "Babel tower" paintings and Memling's "Last judgment".
this is about a man who in 1605 nearly blew up the Westminster Palace with the king and the whole parliament in it. it is also about history repeating because of people's short memory. and about other things which should not be explained but observed.

it's great, except for the figure in the bottom, which I think ruins the balance

it is there for the balance it creates a triangle with the hand and the blue eye. it also corresponds with the red eye bringing the firey color to the bule zone. as for symbolism: it comes from Memling's final judgement and shows one of the resurrected bodies. so it is a symbol of destruction of the old and creation of the new, of hope, suspence and fear of the things which are to come. oh and also it is one of these little "odd ones out" that i love to put in my works. Think of it as "trade mark"
thank you so much for expressing your opinion. i do appreciate it.

ta dama jest nieodzowna bo zawiera w sobie coś co chciałam powiedzieć robiąc ten obrazek trochę to mętnie brzmi ale nie chce rzeby rzeczy były "as they should be" tylko "as i feel they should be". ona jest elementem układanki. bardzo się cieszę że zwraca uwagę
dzięki za wizytę i docenienie.

the person on the side is absolutely essential for the compostition and for the plot. so is the red skin.
but thank you very much for an honest opinion.

This is reminiscent of Dave McKean (Sandman covers, Vertigo Tarot, etc) and I love it. The two-colored eyes, the cool blues and fire reds. It totally screams a theme of memory, especially with the tower on the person's head, and it looks like they are totally compelled by the memory, spellbound and touched by it. It also touches on the theme of the Tarot card, the Tower (obviously, because that card relates to the Tower of Babel) representing liberation through pain. A great piece.

thank you. you've noticed many of those which are "not to be explained but observed". i do love Dave McKean's work (Sandman covers especially) and though i wasn't thinking of it when making "remember remember" the comparison is still a great honour.
I really truly think that if people remembered unpleasant things instead of conviniently forgetting them they wouldn't make so many terrible mistakes and the world would not be as shit as it is.
as for tarot - well spotted btw -as you say the upright meaning of the tower is liberation through pain but (which is even more important because of the Guy Fawkes theme) the reversed meaning implies rebelling against tyranny, causing disruption or ... being falsely accused.

Ooooh, that's great--I wasn't thinking about the Tower inverted.
I agree about remembering. Mostly because I've noticed that things I'ved tried to put out of my mind just come back and hurt me more for the hiding. So now I'm all about confronting everything head on. And the backlog of emotions I've pushed back are all part of my artistic mission for the year (or until I've drained myself)--making art from all the bottles of emotion on the shelves. Should be fun.
Anyway, nuff babble. I really, really love this piece.

well all the kiddies' rhymes i know are in polish this one came to me courtesy mr Alan Moore. The Guy Fawkes day was always one of my favourite english celebrations. I adored it because it was never quite clear what is being celebrated - the fact that a proto-terrorist was caught, tortured, executed before he did what he planed or the fact that someone dared to do what so many wished they had the guts to do (blow up the state). As the say "Guy Fawkes is the only person who enetered the brithish parliament with good intentions". i love paradoxes.

aaaaah its beautiful, is it not?
i've only got a small copy of V, which came with the special edition DVD, but it only tells you of the main story of the film.
I should really hunt some down
