Description

A few weeks ago, I was playing Call of Duty: World at War for the first time with a buddy of mine. We were playing the Russian campaign and fought all the way until the final battle in Berlin. The fighting in those last few levels was intense as we battled our way to the Reichstag building, inch by bloody inch. The feelings I had during that campaign inspired this piece.
I took an image frame from the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer and used that as my starting point. I wasn't aiming too hard for historical accuracy. Which is also why everyone seems to be using tracer rounds XD. I doubt that's historically accurate, but I chose it for dramatic flare. That said, I did a lot of image gathering on the German army uniforms and weapons, so hopefully that's passable. Also, this location is fictional. I didn't base it off of any specific place.

In terms of technique, I tried my professor's suggestion on using Gaussian blur in my linework. I used that to soften the lines and then a combination of that and motion blurring on the background to bring the two soldiers into focus. The explosion was a lot of fun to do. Never did one before, so I looked at a combination of explosions from WW2, real-life, and comics/manga. Not gonna lie, when I finally applied the lighting to the explosion, I was giddy with excitement.
