DA Music Meme for Writers

1. Pick a character, fandom, pairing, friendship, whatever. In this case: My story

2. Put on your music program on shuffle/random and start playing songs.

3. For each song, write something inspired by the song related to the theme you chose earlier. You only have the song length. No pre-planning and no writing after the song is over. No skipping songs either.

4. Do 10 songs and post. Make sure to include the song name/artist.

1. Russian Roulette – Rihanna

Bracing himself with his feet, Alfred stood slowly and wiped a streak of blood from his now bleeding lip. He drew his gun up slowly, apprehensively.

"What do you think you can gain from doing this?" he asked the man opposite him.

"I can find hope for my people again," the other replied in his thick accent.

"You think this really helps them? Sacrificing welfare and freedom for equality? Can't you see what you're doing? You're slowly killing them."

Bang.

2. Wish – Paper Route

"Fanden!" Mathias yelled as he stubbed his toe on the corner of a chest. Noticing it, he looked down with curiosity. The chest looked familiar, just out of the reaches of his memory. Kneeling down, he tried at the locks to find that they were opened. He flicked them up and slowly pushed the lid back with one hand while steadying the chest with the other. A puff of dust blew out.

Inside was a very ancient helmet and the head of an axe, along with a cloak and an intricately carved bow and arrow set.

3. Human – The Killers

Stretching back in his chair, Alfred basked in the warmth of the summer sun. Out of the blue the heat brought back a memory of sweltering heat and guns blazing. Suddenly he felt quite uncomfortable relaxing in the sun. He needed to move. He needed to leave the memory behind.

He jumped up and ran to the house to grab his keys and then dived into his Jeep Cherokee, starting the ignition and backing quickly out of the garage. He was going to spend the day down at the park, where he could enjoy the cooling of the fountain and the laughter of content children.

4. Citizen Soldiers – Three Doors Down

A street lamp flickered, threatening to douse the street in darkness. Walking at a steady pace, Alfred kept his eyes focused directly in front of him, his destination—his apartment—in mind, avoiding looking hopelessly lost. He knew these roads like the back of his own hand but he wanted to avoid contact with some of the shady characters around here.

Suddenly a cry tore through the silence, and Alfred turned into the darkened alley it came from.

5. Apocalypse Please – Muse

The sky rumbled overhead with the sound of roaring jets as all around skyscrapers were crumbling in slow motion to the ground. Smoke billowed through the streets and up into the sky where it mingled with the clouds turned fiery orange by the setting sun. Standing on the edge of the pier, Alfred looked out to the swirling, raging sea as his home fell to ruins behind him.

So this was what it was like. The end of an empire. The closing of a story. The apocalypse of an age.

No terrible monsters, no aliens, no scientific anomalies. Simply one man against another, bringing about his downfall. The incurred wrath of a neglected man.

6. Sweet December – Short Stack

As the city lights glowed onto the pavement, Steven watched from his Ford Territory for a sight of his companion. The air outside was chilly, and Christmas lights glowed overhead.

Out of the dark a familiar figure approached slowly. Steven jumped up in anticipation. The other was dressed in a black and white striped shirt and camos. He ran forward and grabbed his friend in a crushing hug.

7. Last Train to London – ELO

The clock in the car read 9:29 as Arthur pulled into the station parking lot. The stereo was blaring ELO as he parked and rested his hand on the window. Summer breezes blew through the car, ruffling his hair and blowing the dress of his companion.

"Are you sure you'll be alright, Belle? I can take you there if you want."

"No, thank you Arthur. I'm sure I'll be alright."

Arthur bit his thumbnail in worry. She had only been here a few times before, and she had never been on the train but once. Maybe he should accompany her. After all, he didn't really want to leave her by herself.

"…Or, if you want, I could just stay here, Arthur."

8. Bali Ha'i – Charlotte Church

A gust of wind from the sea blew the sand and the ruffles of a white sundress. Michelle held down the hem of her dress with her hand while looking out to a sailboat on the sea. Her papa was snoozing in a hammock, a romance novel propped on his chest. Seagulls cawed out and swooped down to the shore.

Somewhere, far over that blue, blue sea, was another island, one far colder than this one.

"Je t'aime?" she whispered.

9. Suomi – Alexander Rybak

Here, in the far reaches of the world, where the Aurora Borealis shines down, and the temperature is far below freezing, only a few humans reside. A select few people can live here, and only a few nations actually reach into this arctic circle. It is here that Nils waits for sight of his friend.

The silhouette of a reindeer and a man striding alongside comes within view. He smiles and walks forward. "Suomi," he whispers.

"Tino," he says to his friend, grabbing him in a hug.

10. Irresistible – Temposhark

Leaning his chair back precariously, Mathias laughed. Jan wasn't usually a tease, but he could pull a leg when he felt like it.

"Shut up, ya joker," he said, balancing with his foot.

"No, really, you should have seen it." Jan set down his glass and slouched over on the edge of the sofa. "Anyway, now you have to tell me your story."

"Well, it involved a certain guy pulling another guy's leg and then getting back at him."
