Description
Edit on 8/11/2010:Gosh, it's ages since I've worked on this one. Sorry for the confusion about how to install it (still haven't gotten around to adapt it to dA's new feature). You can still use it, though, you just have to do so the old fashioned way.
Also, a great, great THANK YOU to both *EvenDeathLies and ^ginkgografix - I cannot believe I got a DD!
Edit on 9/9/2009:
Thanks to ~Keyafoxdoghanyou I've updated the code with some changes to the css that was necessary to fix a new bug. I don't know why it occured - maybe DA changed something that made it read the code differently? Anyway, it should be fixed now.
If you use this template it is adviced that you download it again and "re-install" it. You only need to update the css since there's no changes to the images, so your old links will work fine.
If you have any questions, as always, don't hesitate to ask.
<3
Erica
PS. The bug is only visible in Firefox - just in case you wonder why you can't see any bugs o.O
[EDIT]
This journal design was made before the new skins feature was implemented, so please be aware that you need to install the css manually to use it. It's not nearly as complicated as it sounds though XD
Just use the guide that's written on the preview image (above). The only thing that's changed is where you post the css code. Instead of CSS (beta) as it was called, you now go to 'Options' (a tab found in the top left corner of your new journal entry) and paste the css into the apropiate box. Remember to edit the links in the css to where you uploaded the images. And choose 'save as'.
If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll try to help.
[EDIT]
As it seems that many are having problems with not writing long enough journals (aka. the footer image has a non-flattering sharp line), I've uploaded a new .zip file with one additional image in it. This is the footer image in .png format with a transparent background - if you use this image instead of the .jpg version, you should also be able to write short journals without compromising the layout ^^
And in case you wish to center the footer image, please find the how-to in one of the comments below (or ask me).
I'm really happy that you guys like it so much! Much
PostScriptum: Eh, forgot a very important thing - you need to put your mood section in the bottom for the footer image to work properly.
Wee! My first journal template ^^
I made this with the help of some awesome resources - please go here to see who. I've got the stock owner's permission to make this a free template.
Yes, a free template. So just go ahead and use this if you like - the how to is stated above (in the preview image). You're free to alter it any way you'd like, just don't claim that you made the original template (that includes images and the css). And please remember to note me - or comment on this deviation - that you're using it.
The .zip file (that you're downloading if you want to use this) contains a text file with the css, the preview image, and the top and bottom image of the journal. (There are two versions of the top (background) image - one without text and one with. Feel free to change it to your liking - the font I've used is also included.)
[Note: This template can be used with both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox (partly - there seem to be some slight errors when viewed in Firefox still), and with screen resolutions 1024x768 and 1280x1024 (those are the ones tested at least).]
Please fave if you like it <3

Ok, so I've finally got it working (took a bit of tweaking and comment-reading for the footer to do what its supposed to do) but the right hand edge (the darker gray strip) shows up nearer the center of the page rather than the edge. I don't really have a problem with it, so don't worry about it if its going to be a headache. Just letting you know....unless its only doing that for me. Then pretend I never said anything.
Thanks much for letting me use it.

Hmm, that's wierd - I don't even get what you mean...
When I look at your journal it looks just the way it's supposed to do.
Just out of curiosity, are you viewing it in Firefox?

I don't know - it's just a sneaking suspicion of mine... It seems that some users have problems with viewing it in firefox. I don't really know why, though, so I don't think that there's much I can do about it...

Oh! Oh boy, I hadn't thought of that... You need to put your mood section in the bottom, since the bottom image is a part of the mood section ^^
I've just looked at your journal and I can't figure out why the header image wont show. Try to upload it to imageshack as you have with the footer. (If the size seems to mess up by that, just let me know - then I'll send you my own link.)

8D Okay, I got to fix that bottom image problem! Thank you!
But what do you mean the header image isn't showing? Weren't there only two pictures to upload? The bg and the bottom pic?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Wyrdling In reply to mingming07 [2007-06-26 09:07:21 +0000 UTC]
Well, now it does (don't know why it didn't do so yesterday when I looked at it o.O)
And yes, sorry - I just keep mixing up the names for the pictures, because people call them all different things. I meant the bg picture.

This is lovely and I'd like to use it too but I'm having some problems with it. The footer isn't displaying properly on mine either, I think because I don't have very long journal entries like some people, so I've had to take that off for now. Also the date stamp isn't appearing as yours does above. It's all on one line which runs off the edge of the box. Any ideas how to fix it?

Wyrdling In reply to wonderlandart [2007-06-25 06:02:03 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, I think I need to edit the describtion and add a 'remember to write loooong journals' or something ^^ I'm just so used to having a bunch of extras in mine, so I never thought it be a problem.
- Or maybe I should just go make the footer image's background transparent? I'll get back to you on that if I do...
As to the date stamp I don't really know - it seems to have been fixed (it looks the way it's supposed to for me anyway).
And I'm glad you like it ^^

The transparent footer works perfectly now thanks! I think the other glitches are just Firefox and my monitor settings so not alot I can do as I can't code to save my life. I've tweeked it the best I can anyway, I love it so I'll still use it! Thanks!

I can't really find a way around the date problem either, so I hope you can live with it ^^ If it's any comfort then anyone viewing your page in IE will see it correctly.

Wyrdling In reply to Allyekhrah [2007-06-25 06:08:14 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the footer image is aligned to the right (because it has a sharp edge to that side, so centering it will look a little bit wierd), therefore when seen with a high screen resolution it will be way off center. The preview image is taken when viewed in 1024x768 (so that is also how yours will look when others see it with that resolution). If you want to center it I have written how to do so in a comment below.
Another note, the image will be cut off at the top if there's not enough 'mood box' lines filled out. That's a glitch on my part...
But I'm glad you like it ^^

Yep yep! The only thing I see is the bottom image isn't centered... it always seems to hang off to the right. I see it does that on your's too. I know NOTHING of CSS so I have no idea how to fix it. But the rest is simply lovely!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Wyrdling In reply to Nyxen [2007-06-20 19:14:47 +0000 UTC]
Well, it does so on purpose ^^
But if you want to change it just find the
.journalbox ul.list {
in the css and change
background-position:right bottom;
to
background-position:center bottom;
You can also change the
margin:10px 0px 20px 45px;
to
margin:10px 0px 20px 0px;
- that will make the image nicely centered.
But that will also move the 'mood' section to the left.
If you choose to do that, you might want to center the 'mood' section by replacing
text-align:left;
with
text-align:center;
Hope it's not all too confusing ^^
And please ask if you need any help with it.
