Want. It really is a piece of very real magic. (:
It's been very long since I saw one of these, myself. The one I saw was flickering across the sky, with pink and blueish tones. Very pretty, too. Didn't have a camera on me, but the experience was breathtaking.

They are quite common during the winter here, but very rare during the summer. And especially at this magnitude.

I'm from peterborough and heard from my sis last night that they would be out and then tonight in cobalt even though it wasn't clear enough to see, the clouds were a bright blue like a river in the sky over a black canvas~

I tried again last night, but fog came and ruined it all. From what I heard I wouldn't have caught anything special either. I can't wait for the winter though, I've found the perfect spot in this area to watch this during the winter. I've always been fascinated by the northern lights, its almost like magic.

oh darn D:
its been raining in cobalt since the lights here happened~
Wish I could see them properly for real and wish I could have a special spot to view it! its still raining even now too and while I was in Quebec today it did nothing but pour

Well, when the weather clear or when you have the time at hand. You should take some time and find a spot you really like. I've found mine for these, but I'm stilling looking for thunderstorms as they require a lot more safety with them. Point is if you have a place you'll fare much better!

well I honestly cannot look for a place to watch them here one being I do not live in cobalt only visit a week every few months or so.
I was on the highway between newlisker and cobalt when I saw the river of blue but even for a small town cobalt still gives enough light to obscure the aurora, its also not encouraged to walk the paths late at night (even during the day) because of bears and wildcats xD
the weather is pretty bad this month too and my sweety is far too busy to drive me anywhere during the night. I guess its impossible for me atm so I have to settle for the pretty pictures

simply beautiful!

i heard in a weather forecast yesterday here in toronto that the auroras could very possibly be out. it wasn't very clear last night though so we couldn't see them. when i first heard that report i thought the weather man was lying again

You should have been there with me though if you think the photo was awesome, it doesn't nearly represent the full beauty that was last night.

X-a-v-i-o-r In reply to Herdervriend [2010-08-04 09:56:47 +0000 UTC]

Well its quite unusual for us to have them this powerful during the summer, they usually occur during the winter here. It was quite spectacular last night.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Herdervriend In reply to X-a-v-i-o-r [2010-08-04 11:00:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I though they also mainly came in the winter. Maybe because the polar ice sheet is melting the fastest ever seen. Which cause strange natural effects. How north are you btw?

Nah, there has been some pretty strong solar flares the past days. This has been expected for a few days now. Well following the UTM32 I'm at this very second: 67'49921 degrees north & 628379 degrees east.

And, oke. (Mhh must find the UTM32 stuff to see where that is xD)
