If you look closely, is a static sprite. The only thing that moves the arms, tail and shell. They are only 4 sprites. the last two movements are repeated.

Yea, I figured it was static images put together. Did you use fireworks? I'm only asking because I'm horrible at making gifs, but it's something I'd like to dabble in someday.

No, I used image ready and jasc animation.
these are good programs if you get used to them.
I recommend you practice a simple sprite 2 or 3 times per week. And do not be discouraged if you can not do well at first, this requires patience.
