New design for the Engie! Yay! I’m actually quite pleased with it. She looks a whole lot better than she did. ^^ *Is satisfied*Thought I would do a bio for the Engineer, though she doesn’t appear in the main story itself. She’s a great character though, so I was thinking of maybe doing a side story with her, kind of like Lily-pily’s 9 Genesis: Origins comic. We’ll see. On to the bio!
Number/Name: Dr. Monica Haruno aka The Engineer
Tag Line: N/A
Number Placement: N/A
How long have they been around?: Was 44 years old when she died.
Abilities: Had a truly brilliant mind, and was one of the country’s leading authorities on structural engineering before the proverbial B.S. hit the fan. She was additionally a gifted mechanic, automaton technician and inventor, and a prolific and talented essayist and author, having a unique and interesting way with words. She was also quite good at sewing.
Weapon(s): None really, though she could brandish a cast iron frying pan with the best of them. Also, when the Machines started attacking, not many made it past her jerry-rigged - but still unbelievably effective - series of booby traps.
Likes: Working with her hands, preferably with metal or cloth; teaching; reading, especially poems, science fiction, and biographies; a good, friendly debate and voicing her exact opinions on things; writing, particularly in her journal in her special coded language she developed with her son; the color purple; music, especially classical; a good cup of hot jasmine tea, preferably shared with a friend; bittersweet chocolate, licorice, and sweet and sour chicken; playing chess.
Dislikes: Hypocrites and holier-than-thou types of people; being idle; eggplant, shrimp, and milk; senseless violence and death; snakes, spiders, and cats; rollercoasters and most card games; bad penmanship and writing
About: The Engineer was born on February 20, to Japanese immigrant father and American mother (or whatever the equivalent was in 9’s world). She also had a younger sister, her junior by six years. It soon became apparent, even at a young age, that she was extraordinarily gifted in the fields of computer science and mathematics, and eventually went on to a comfortable teaching job at a prestigious college. There, she met her future husband, who she married about a year later, and also the Scientist, with whom she became very good friends with when he gave a lecture at the college, even though they lived in different cities.
She and her husband eventually had a son, their only child and the apple of their respective eyes. They lived in peace for about eight years, the Engineer teaching at the college, and helping to design building projects for the city, her husband making a comfortable living as a handyman and jack-of-all-trades, and her son growing into as sweet, helpful boy. Then, tragedy! Her son, who had never been what one would call strong, fell gravely ill with a rare disease. Nothing could be done for him, and he died a few months later, though he never once complained. The Engineer was devastated by his death, and if not for her husband, would have probably followed him.
Just a few months afterward, the B.R.A.I.N. rebelled and started its war against the humans. The Engineer’s husband was killed early on in the fighting, and it shattered her almost completely. She fell into depression and holed herself up in her home with the stockpile of food she and her husband had stored to last them a few months, and shut herself away from the world, waiting dejectedly for the day when a Machine would come crashing through her roof and end her life because she couldn’t bear to do it herself.
But then the Scientist sent her a long letter and some diagrams for an idea he had should the Machines prevail against humankind. He had sent these exact same plans to seven other of his close friends across the country, plans for creating sentient rag dolls, which could survive in such a hostile environment, and perhaps could be able to bring the Machines down and make the world safe for humanity once again if they worked together. The Engineer was instantly snapped out of her funk, and jumped at the chance to make one last difference. She began to feverishly work on her group of nine, the 20s. It took her about four months working nonstop to complete all of them, during which time she kept a detailed journal about her experiences and thoughts, written in a special code that only she knew how to read. She died after giving the last of her soul to 29, the end of her set. Thus ended her story, but the story of her legacy had only just begun…
Physically, she was not all that extraordinary, what with her shorter than average stature, slim build, black hair, and dark brown almond-shaped eyes. However, she carried herself like she was seven feet tall, and her piercing brown gaze could quell even the most forward of reporters and politicians, and would later stare down multiple Machines without flinching. She usually wore her back-length hair up in a bun or ponytail, could not read without reading glasses, and especially enjoyed wearing the color purple and gold jewelry.
Personality-wise, the Engineer was a very forceful, strong individual, although she did have her soft side. She was incredibly stubborn, almost to a fault; if she set her mind on doing something, you can bet your rear that she would do it even if it killed her. But she was friendly, kind, motherly when the mood took her, and she absolutely loved children, especially her son, whom she cherished dearly. She was also very resourceful and creative, which was part of the reason she was able to survive in a dystopia as long as she did.

TL; DR The Engineer is the creator of the 20s, and while she is not a main character and does not even appear in the main plot, she plays a crucial role in the story.

She kind of looks like my Spanish teacher.
She seems awesome! Her backstory made me sad, but I like her personality. ^-^

Like your Spanish teacher, huh? That's... eerie. O.O
Thank you! ^-^ I really like her myself. She's a kick-ass middle-aged lady.

That's such a sad backstory! She looks like such a sweet little old lady, too
Does she have that kind of plot role like the Scientist, where you think he's pointless at first but then proves themselves to basically be the central point of the story?

Hey, who are you calling little old lady? She might be little, but she's only 44!
Mmmm, maybe not quite as crucial as that, but certainly very important. The creators of the ten sets of stitchpunks in the story are all quite important, actually.

Sorry!
Mm, you're right.
I feel like such an outsider, since in my story, it was 9, 7, 3 and 4 who created my OCs, not humans
That's just the way my mind works, I guess!

lol - no problem.
Ha, it's not just you; Stitchpups seem to be rather popular with the fandom, so I don't fault you for going that route. They're very cute, anyway.

Oh, no, they're not all Stitchpups Actually, only three of them are! The rest are all...um..."full grown"? Yeah, sure let's go with that!

lol - 24, 25, and 26 are technically "teenagers" so that's a good a word as any to describe them, too. But okay, then. Me bad.

Nah it's okay! I mean, I haven't really shared anything about my 9 OCs so you couldn't have known
