Description

A few days after I saw Inside Out, I got this odd idea for a post-apocalyptic human AU for the movie, and I grew so fond of the idea that I just had to draw at least a little art for it and write up some short, preliminary bios for each character.

In this AU the Emotions traverse the Wastes in a large, armored, all-terrain vehicle called the Riley. The Riley is equipped with a semi-sentient AI that must be interfaced with by way of a neural headband to drive “her.” The ship nicknamed her 5 inhabitants after the main emotion they were each feeling the first time they drove her, and the names kind of just stuck.

An incorrigible optimist, dauntless risk-taker, and master of improvisation, Joyce is the de facto leader of the Emotions. She tries her darndest to keep her friends’ spirits up and everyone working together as smoothly as possible any way she can, be it through jokes, musical jam sessions, or impromptu hugs. She has a great love and instinctive feel for vehicles in general, and as such is the main pilot for the Riley.

About:
Mara is a Feeler (aka an empath), and a strong one at that. While a naturally pessimistic, somber, and somewhat withdrawn person, she understands people and connects with them easily, but because of her heightened emotional perception, being around too many at once is stressful, and she much prefers living in the Wastelands with her small group of friends. In addition to her ability to read and understand people, she has a natural knack with machines and serves as the Riley’s mechanic.

About:
Despite his innate jumpiness and acute sense of vigilance that sometimes borders on paranoia that earned him his nickname, the team would be in dire straits many times over if not for Alistair’s constant watchfulness. He is often the one advocating the cautious, practical route when dealing with the unknown of the Wastelands, and has a hundred and one contingency plans for things that might go wrong. He keeps tabs on the group’s supplies and when they need to restock, and is also their main medic.

Desiree Johar

Disgust

About:
When she isn’t keeping her friends fed and in decent clothes with her cooking and sewing skills, Desiree is the official diplomat of the group when they have reason to venture into the few remaining cities and settlements littering the wastelands. Having grown up as a privileged socialite in one of them before leaving for unknown reasons (or being kicked out, no one’s sure which yet and she isn’t telling), she knows the ins and outs of the intricate etiquette and power games people play there intimately, and has managed to get the group desperately needed supplies that they may otherwise not have obtained by utilizing this knowledge.

medium range crossbow that shoots poisoned darts, variety of poison-coated blades

About:
The last member of the Emotions to join the team, Brent was picked up in an abandoned research facility where the experiments conducted on him ended up giving him pyrokenesis (hence his overabundance of scars and reddish eyes). While he might be perpetually temperamental, usually grumpy, and far too ready to jump into situations without thinking things through, he’s usually the one making trade deals with the Wastelanders they come across for supplies, because he’s always sure to get the fairest and mutually satisfying deals for both parties. And even though he may snap at them from time to time out of habit, he’s come to care deeply for his friends and the Riley, and woe betide anyone who dares try to hurt them.
