Description

The sun was... warm.

Maybe that was the lamest thing you could ever say about the sun, but it was all Ivan could think to describe it. "Bright" was nothing. Artificial lighting could be bright as fuck. And it wasn't particularly beautiful. He'd seen centuries worth of masterpieces and miracles, a bright ball of light in the sky didn't particularly impress him.
But this heat.... It was unlike anything he could ever remember feeling.

The sound of someone sobbing softly brought Ivan back from his little reverie, looking back over his shoulder. Desmond was sitting with his back to a tree, his knees pulled to his chest, tears streaming down his cheeks.

Ivan walked over and sat next to his angel, wrapping an arm around Desmond. When the blonde turned his head away to hide his tears, Ivan gently turned Desmond's face back to him. "What's wrong?"

Desmond tried to wipe away his tears. "This fucking sucks."

The vampire almost laughed. "I'm so sorry we're stuck together for eternity."

Desmond fought back a sad smile and rolled his eyes, tears still falling quietly. "You know what I mean."

Ivan pulled Desmond close to him and kissed his cheek. The angel rested his head against Ivan's shoulder and sighed shakily, again trying to wipe away his tears. "It's just... not supposed to be like this."

Frowning slightly, Ivan leaned his head back against the warm trunk of the tree and closed his eyes, soaking in the rays of the sun. "How is limbo supposed to be?"

"Well, a fuck lot worse than this. But that's not what I mean. We shouldn't be here at all."

Ivan smiled. "Everyone will be fine, Desmond."

Desmond sighed. "It's just that... I thought.... I thought I could be with Evan. I thought we'd have Aiden. I thought...."

The vampire lifted his head and look at Desmond, softly raising the angel's head to look at him, his face still slightly wet with tears. "That's the price, Des." he kissed his forehead. "I wish I could change it...."

Desmond smiled sadly. "I know.... It's stupid for me to cry.... I have you...." He reached up and softly brushed his hand against Ivan's cheek, as though he were afraid he might disappear if he touched him. "That's all I need...."

Ivan smirked and held his angel closer. "You're such a shitty liar, Des." he murmured.

The blonde laughed quietly and wrapped his arms around Ivan. "I mean it."

They held each other in the warm sunlight, a cool breeze rustling the leaves in the tree above them, breaking the deafening silence all around them. Ivan pulled away from the embrace just enough to look at Desmond again. "I love you, Desmond. I'd share any fate with you."

Desmond smiled, leaning forward to kiss Ivan softly. "I love you."
