Description
Photograph of a late 19th century Melanesian Figure in the Oceanic Art: A Celebration of Form exhibit at the San Diegio Museum of Art on Nov 21, 2009...blurry, unfortunately.
The wooden figure was made by the Abelam people from the East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea and would have been placed in front of an Abelam men's house; 84" high.
NOTE: I am not claiming the figure as my own.

A beautifully crafted piece indeed. It has prompted me to do some research on Melanesian Culture. Wish me luck

You definitely should. I absolutely love Oceanic art. Check out Micronesian and Polynesian art/culture as well. You won't be disappointed
