This is a great tutorial, I like how you show different body styles... however I think you should add an "obese" body type. Heavy set woman are really hard to draw.

you're welcome and I intentionally left out obese so that I wouldn't offend anyone

whoops sorry, maybe using "fat" was inappropriate. I am fat and don't mince around with it much so i forget that lots of other people are sensitive about it, well, maybe more sensitive than i am anyway

Thanks so much for this informative tutorial!
Most of the female characters one comes across have the same busty/small waist/big hips look, or super-skinny skeletal look. It's nice to have this as a reference for basic construction of different body types.

You're welcome and you're right, it's easy to generalize the female form
but if you incorporate variety in body shape, it makes things much more interesting

My problem was not knowing where variety would occur naturally; so thanks for the awesome tutorial! ^^

No problem! Is there any chance you'll be making a male version too?

But... All of their bodies are way too skinny.
And their heads are a bit too big.
The close-ups look okay though.

That's a matter of opinion, their bodies are fashioned off of real women.

No I don't, and why are you asking that? I've studied the human form enough to know what it looks like in a generalized for those types enough to make up a tutorial for it. If it's not helpful to you, I'm sorry.

Whatever floats your boat.
It was very kind of you to put all of this together and have the desire to help people. And you know, I'm sure somebody will get something from this! I just wanted to point out that it isn't fully accurate.
And I'll stop there. Keep studying, and I hope that someone does improve their art from this.

*sigh* They're stylized characters. Stylized, stylized.
I know how to draw the human form point by point by point and all the measurements and whatnot. I'm in college for this. Not much else I can say there. Thank you for your kind words.

You have my apologies.
Ehhhh I feel bad now. You're going to totally chew me out, but I really don't normally go around and criticize stuff. I'm real sorry. I guess I jumped to conclusions and felt like acting arrogant. Plus I don't like making people unhappy. I'm so sorry, really. It's been eating at me. I do like your other stuff. Urrrr I stupidly thought I was indirectly helping and blahde blah blah I can't put on a front anymore. My bad. I'm sorry. OTL

I don't think so. Head to body proportion is completely relative and therefore irrelevant. That is to say it can be any size depending on the artists style and the supposed age of the caricature. And the with of the body is basically the same. This tutorial was to illustrate the differences between the different body types. And that it did. There are other tutorials for head body proportion.

Okay, I'll try not to argue with you much further. But I have to say, she's putting out a tutorial on something she doesn't fully understand herself yet. It's a tutorial on the female form, yet it isn't anatomically correct in parts. I wanted to simply point that out. I'm sure she'll improve in the future and hopefully look back on this and feel the same way.

Thanks for making that assumption. These characters are obviously stylized yes, but I'm more than positive that you get the point. This is not a lesson in life drawing. The proportions on these bodies are correct in the relative size to all the other parts on the bodies. This tutorial is not about ratios or measurements, just about the different types of bodies there are. Take it for what it is.
