ERA CHAPTER III The Próceres (Part 1)

400 Days A.A.D.

After a while of being unconscious, Beatrix finally starts to come to. Without even opening her eyes, she could feel she was lying stomach down on metallic floor, while the bottom of her head was cushioned. When she did opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was a group of different Pokémon species at the front, all of them staring at her.

Beatrix felt crossed between feeling scared and embarrassed. Her sight was blurred and they were all strangers, not even the Magnezone she fought was among them. She was so weak that she couldn't even move a muscle yet, so she just looked to the Pokémon that were before her now.

The first one closest to her was a female Mienshao about four feet tall, with a wide lens attached to her left eye. The Mienshao was on her knees, checking and trying to help Beatrix, one could tell by the Oran berry she had in hand.

The second Pokémon was a male Scrafty, three feet tall, with scars around his eyes. He gazed at Beatrix in surprise but still tried to seem calm, he also had something attached but in his left ear, an ear device of some kind.

And the last two Pokémon in her sight were a four foot tall green-eyed Aerodactyl, who had huge frontal fangs, and a possibly ten foot long Serperior. He had a tail with the shape of an odd axe thing. Both of them were male and were at the distance, watching the Mienshao do her procedure.

Beatrix right now just wished to sneak away from them, but she was still in not conditions to even move after her last battle, for now she could only hear voices, these were from them speaking with each other.

“Is she awake now?”

“Not fully recovered, yet.”

“Sarge can be a bit radical when battling.”

“If I recall correctly, Zoroarks are not really ones to trust.”

“Is she becoming one of us?”

Beatrix had so many questions in her mind in that moment. She even thought about the possibility that maybe she could be dying, but something in particular she wondered.

“Is it possible that these are the Próceres? Where’s that bastard then?” Slowly she moved her eyes around the place, Beatrix could only tell she was indoors now, not getting a chance to examine much, because the Mienshao suddenly grabbed Beatrix’s head and inserted an Oran berry into her maw, so she could eat.

“I’m not a doctor, but even I know this should be enough for you” the gentle Mienshao said with an almost angelical voice for Beatrix’s ears. The Zoroark then felt how quickly her body regained energy.

“Mhm…” after a few seconds Beatrix stood on her feet in an abrupt way. This alarmed the three Pokémon behind the Mienshao, making them go automatically in an improvised battle stance at the now active Zoroark.

“Stop!” the Mienshao exclaims while she does a signal by raising her arms, like telling them to not get any closer because she would take care of this. Meanwhile Beatrix began to step back away from them, until a wall behind her stopped her from doing so, having been cornered now.

"Calm down Beatrix, we don’t plan to hurt you or anything like that" the Mienshao tells to Beatrix peacefully.

"How do you know my name?" Beatrix asked not being convinced at what the Mienshao has told her, but after thinking a bit and calming down Beatrix also asked "So… you are one of the survivors of the Próceres team, right? I just had a fateful encounter with your teammate… Captain… Private… or something…" Beatrix told while pointed at the Mienshao with a foreclaw, trying to remember the name of the Magnezone. The Mienshao nodded, possibly to the fact that Beatrix was smart enough to do accurate assumptions.

"I think you are referring to Sarge. But in fact, I’m the leader of the Próceres, Eve.” Eve said; Beatrix didn't expect to have a direct talk with their leader this soon in the time she has been there. “My comrades call me simply ‘Leader’ though, but I don’t really consider myself that way. Nice to meet you, Beatrix the Independiente” Eve replied nicely, while her teammates watched carefully from behind their conversation.

"So you gonna call me like that too, eh?" Beatrix frowned and looked around, having now a better look of the place she was in, pretty much looked like the interior of secret base. "Uhm, where's Sarge then?"

"Let’s say he’s grounded now, quite literally..." Eve murmured the very last words "He was the one who brought you in here, maybe you both should talk; he’d be at our greenhouse.”

“A greenhouse? In here? I guess this place is some sort of survival fort?” Beatrix asked while turned her head often to check the place, she could see several machines and doors; one of them looked burnt and damaged. She wasn't very familiar with any of the machinery she has seen so far.

"Correct, this is the Próceres' Base, here we live and get ready for our survival missions.” Eve explained, then took a breath “As Próceres, we collect, save, retrieve all the Elixir possible scattered around the world we in live currently. We try to only use a minimal part of it though. Since, our reserves are for when, the mythical Pokémon, holder the ultimate power, Arceus, comes back…"

“Wha…!?” Beatrix replied astonished at hearing the name of Arceus, starting to think Eve could be nuts. “You already know what happened to that Pokémon, right?”

Eve then glanced up and looked at the roof, her sight seemed lost like if she was trapped in a retrospective.

“It’s been more than a year since that; actually counting today it’s been four hundred days” Eve says in a sad tone. “You know people say that no one in the world missed such a tragic event, even all those from others regions than Quera?”

“You are talking about Arceus' death?” Beatrix replies like if it wasn't something really important and crosses her arms. She knew what Eve was talking about though.

“But of course, every eye in the world saw it. What was even more tragic is what the world has turned into after that.” Eve murmured while still looking to the roof.

“The day Era began. The day where Pokémon learned how to use Enermoves, but also the day they started turning into Enerves…” Beatrix mumbled.

“Do you even know how to prevent that from happening to you?” Eve looked now at Beatrix again.

“I must not run out of move power and drink some elixirs or ethers often, yeah I know that” Beatrix quickly checked her mane and looked at her palms, noticing that she did not have the stolen mini-ethers with her anymore. She thought she probably dropped them after her past battle with Sarge, but since they were worthless items she didn't mind the loss. Eve looked at her weirdly, but just proceeded to continue the conversation.

“You know quite a lot, more than expected of a wandering Independiente.”

Beatrix wasn't sure how to reply to that, she knew a bit about what’s going on in the world, but she wasn't familiarized to being called an Independiente.

“So…” Beatrix clapped once “after Arceus doomed the world, are you really expecting him to come back to life? And even to fix up what remains from the chaos?” Beatrix asked in a subtle sarcastic tone. The rest of the Próceres looked at her with neutral reactions, hard to tell for Beatrix if they liked her or not so far.

“For some reason we are still in here. As the Próceres, we are hopeful, and once Arceus comes back, we’re certain he will restore the world as it should be. The world before Era was too corrupt anyways; hence why Arceus put down his final judgment upon us” Eve looked at everyone in the room then back to Beatrix “And now we’ll collect any elixir we can find for the mythical Pokémon, and save our existence" Eve explained while Beatrix glanced down, not really hitting on anything Eve was telling to her.

"Holding a piece of hope, that's similar to a dream." Beatrix snickered quietly.

"Maybe, but this is the kind of dream that comes true." Eve replied holding a fist, trying to look determined at Beatrix.

“Dreams that can come true, better they not be just Illusions…” Beatrix now looked again at Eve.

“Mmmm, almost forget, I’m truly sorry for what Sarge did to you.”

“It’s all right, I kind of overdid on him as well, thank you for helping me” Beatrix said with a smile, a smile which changed to a glance of surprised curiosity when Eve extended her right hand to Beatrix.

“Yet that won’t stop me from asking… Beatrix, would you join us, the Próceres, for this noble cause?"

After hearing that, Beatrix just crossed her arms and closed her eyes, showing a bit of disgust. Eve’s ideal sounded too crazy for her. The reactions of Eve’s teammates were mixed.

“Oh! Okay” Eve stopped extending her arm and felt a bit embarrassed “You are up to deciding whatever you want, we won't force you. That said, would you like to take a look around the facility?” Eve asked without sounding desperate. “Sarge could help you, we’re all bit busy at the moment, you might like in here after all. And did I mention that I pay with elixirs to my teammates?"

“Oh?” Beatrix’s reaction changed to a subtle grin at hearing about an elixir payment, she was totally interested in them “I guess I’ll look for Sarge, take a look around and then finally tell you what I think about it, I guess that sounds fair?”

“Fair to me, Beatrix the Independiente” Eve now clearly happier nodded at Beatrix in agreement, then turned around at the others "Guys, please resume your usual activities, next missions are going to be tomorrow” everyone instantly moved from that huge room to different areas, even Eve but not before pointing out the Greenhouse's door for Beatrix.

Beatrix observed her surroundings one more time, it was huge place and futuristic looking, so many questions were in her head, and she also felt lost at all the places she could go. She didn't bother going anywhere but towards the glass door entrance to the greenhouse, to meet again with Sarge.

Third Chapter of Era, Season E. Beatrix finds herself inside a facility after losing a battle against Sarge, and then is asked something in special.
