it looks as if hes sitting in the medical station to get his wounds tended to after battle... he looks all handsome on the outside, but you can see his inside is violent and confused and scared... just like a soldier.

i absolutely love this piece, both in skill and concept, and i cant wait to check out more of your work.

why the antiquey finish? i realize a lot of people on here like it, but i'm not sure the purpose it serves, image-wise. do you like Leon Golub? i read in one comment you dont like wars, and he has some really powerful anti-war art. he's a huge inspiration to me (though you probably can't see that). i think this has potential, but it could be stronger.

Thank's!!! I'll find out about Leon Golub... and i agree about antique finish... am not sure about the purpose myself... i have theory... but am not sure... i was testing that burned antique fin at that time...

Lol. Makes me want to join the army...like a male pinup. Seriously though, that's amazing! Did you burn the piece or did you..ahhh there's something you use..something you use to rub it on and it makes it look very old..I forgot it. But there is something that you can do. Or maybe it was a photomanip sort of thing. Anyways, GREAT JOB! Congrats on the DD!

xanq In reply to soulhealer [2006-07-24 15:55:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Answering the question: i paint in oils, so first i paint correct painting a la prima style, layers are added after painting is perfectly drive (sic!!). For making layers i used different colourless painting mediums or varnishis mixing with a lots of turpentine in what i mix dif oil colours for tone: sap green, indiho extra (indigo?!), carmin (green, blue, red) ... they all have to be transparent! So this mixture gets rather dark. Then with that i float my painting... sometimes i use brush, sometimes i just throw it (hommage to Pollock ...)

Superb work as always. Even though this guy is a pin-up, and selling his beauty, there is something about the mood and expression that could come from a religious painting. Your work really interests me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xanq In reply to Diregram [2006-07-24 06:40:34 +0000 UTC]

Ohh yes. religious aspect is always in my works ... i think. It comes from my innerself... as sadness. In this case... i was thinking about all those well raised and good boys who are in war... loosing theyr lifes... because of what? ... goarmy.com is existing website ... so i pointed on anachronistic aspect... it was filled with testimonials where people were saying, that going army cave the meaning of life, how filled they are now ... ... ... i believe it is like that for some people... not for me. I am afraid of war.

well yeah... it was all in ref pic i just had to do pin-up painting... my copyright belongs to the final layers (7 or more)... that give this strange war-pain-tragical and dirty look and feeling like after burning. I can not stand wars.
