Description Here's the second redraw of Demon, since technically, she's got two animal forms -- canine and felcanine.
This one, which I hope is obvious, is the felcanine form, meaning she's a hybrid; part canine and part feline.

In this case, her father - Kaine, [link] - was a Snow Leopard / Arctic Wolf felcanine, and her mother was a half-human shapeshifter -- daughter of the pure shifter Siberian Husky / Giant Alaskan Malamute hellhound shifter, Devilyn [link] -- even if she never knew it.

So, Demon mostly took after her mother's siberian husky genes, but she also inherited her father's (and his father, Sage's [link] ) tail and snow leopard rosette spots, as well as her blue coloration from her dad's mother - Aurora, [link] .

Edit: Holy crap, this got FIFTY favorites? =faints= That's more than I've ever had on any single piece in my entire time on DA. WHOA. xDD Thanks a bunch, guys! n__n

Edit 2: A hundred and thirty favorites? 0__0 =spaz= Gnaah..thank you all SO much! nn; This piece is almost a year old now and I personally don't like it as much as I did back when I first drew it, but I'm glad everyone else enjoyed it so much. ^^ Thanks again, everybody! <33

Edit 3 (December 2012): Jeeze, going on one thousand favorites?.. Seriously? That's just..astonishing to me.
I'm honored, honestly, but I'm really not even much of a fan of this drawing anymore, what with all of the anatomical flaws I can see now that I've improved.
Should I redraw this, since people like it so much?

Thank you for asking and I'm glad you like it so much, but sorry, my answer is no. Please do not trace or reference my artwork; with or without credit given.

There are plenty of good stock photos for you to use, and those do not come with the errors and flaws of another artist's drawings so you would be much better off to use them. I can help you find places to look if you're having trouble.

By "bases", do you mean free-use lineart for you to color? Or do you mean artwork of a subject for you to trace?

AnimeLover0519 In reply to xDember [2013-12-17 16:58:34 +0000 UTC]

Free to use line art, I know its sort of lazy to use them but I have to get used to using the computer art before I can stop using them.

You can find them on deviantart. At the "Search" function up top, type in what you're looking for and add "free lineart" or "free lines" - such as "winged wolf free lineart" or "wolf wings free lines" - I've used these before just to play around with color schemes, for example. Just make sure you read the artwork's description to be sure it's free use, and obey any rules they might ask - such as no coloring to sell, no removing their credit from the image, or so on.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xDember In reply to tanatiger [2013-01-16 07:07:39 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry about it. Commissions are when you pay an artist and they draw something you specify. For example, say I wanted someone to draw my dog, or my character; I would describe it to them or preferably show them images to go by (such as photos of my dog) and they would draw it. I could also be more specific, such as if I wanted my dog drawn jumping over an obstacle on an agility course, for example. Does that make sense?

xDember In reply to tanatiger [2013-01-17 09:10:23 +0000 UTC]

That's fine. I don't give art away for free to anyone who asks, though. What would be in it for me? I receive no benefit for putting hours of time and effort, enduring discomfort, to give a stranger a free gift.
Not to mention I'd be hounded constantly and never have any free time if I drew for everyone who asked.

Think about it. Would you ask someone to paint your house for free? How about fix your car for free? Or "sell" you an item from a store, and ask to give them no payment?
It's not really fair to ask random artists to draw you something for free either -- unless they already offer requests, of course.
Some can even find it pretty offensive and it may get you blocked or even blacklisted, so it might work in your favor if you were more careful in the future, honestly.

If you want, you can do searches for artists offering requests if you want free art; the quality can vary and it won't always be accurate to what you asked for, but, you get what you pay for.
Good luck.

This is not a wolf, it is a fantasy-based Siberian Husky and Snow Leopard hybrid. It is not a demon of any kind; the character's name is "Demon".
Please DO NOT copy, trace or otherwise replicate my work or the characters depicted in it in any way, shape or form.

I love the way the blue sort of mixes. XD What I mean by that is, I love the way you kindof mixed a wolf and a leopard together, and also, the way the blue just naterally goes with the black. <3

beautiful what kind of color pencils did u use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xDember In reply to dragoblaze [2012-02-24 04:48:27 +0000 UTC]

Actually, very inexpensive ones~! I've spent well over a few thousand dollars on traditional artwork media in my lifetime, with colored pencils making up the bulk of that.

However, Staedtler is one of the only brands I know of that makes a nice Black.
Most disappointingly, Prismacolor is much too thick and clumpy, as are most of their darker colors, and even many of their median or light ones -- unless you grind the lead into the paper and then use a colorless blender afterward to lessen the overdose of the white specks between the blotches of color, which shouldn't be necessary.

Unfortunately, I can never find Staedtler pencils sold individually here, and IF they can be ordered at all, the prices are usually beyond ridiculous and impractical.
I wouldn't get my hopes up, because I've visited their website numerous times in the past in hopes of ordering some supplies from them that average stationery stores just don't carry, and I could never find any way to buy it from them off of their official site. Quite disappointing, for such a well-known and publicized brand, even if their pencils may not be their main attraction.

The Black in this piece of artwork (due to the fact that most, if not all of my staedler Blacks are worn down to children-crayon-sized sticks) was actually good old Crayola.
I don't use this brand for much because of how drab and washed out the colors tend to be (and pressing harder only makes it look like a kindergarten table after craft time) but for the Black pencils, I do make an exception.

The pale Cyan used in the jagged stripes in this piece is Roseart, which is a brand I would normally never touch due to how...brittle yet rubbery, even almost "plastic"-like their lead is, but I can't find many others that carry this exact color. Aside from this Cyan their Hot Pink, I wouldn't use any of their other colors, myself.

The primary Blue of the collar was a prismacolor, as were the spikes, which are Metallic Silver -- in real life, they shine and glimmer as the light catches them, just like real metal...but sadly, the scanner really fails to capture this at all.

I actually used some various pens, also, to go around the Cyan with a more vivid Electric-Blue color to get it to stand out and really 'pop' when viewed.
I regret not doing this around the character's elbows, where I used another pencil which simply couldn't achieve the right amount of vibrancy I was after.

Unfortunately with traditional media, there simply is no "Undo" button, so after I did it and then disliked it and decided to change it, I was stuck with a patch of lesser quality color there. A bit of an eyesore, as I was otherwise quite proud of this at the time.

I should have also gone around the black marks near the elbow with a black pen as I did the other black portions, but it escaped my notice until after I had already coated it with fixatif to shield it from smears and other damages.

In total, the pros and cons of these brands of colored pencils, in my honest opinion:
Staedtler -- amazing quality unmatched by all others I've tried; horrible selection, difficult to find let alone purchase individually, rather pricey.

Prismacolor -- excellent selection of varying colors, not too difficult to find at a decent art store; costs an arm and a leg, the lead is so soft that the quality is gloppy like wet makeup that has dried out, especially with darker colors. NOT at all as good as people seem to praise them for. Need to leave trenches in your paper and then use an additional wax-like "colorless blender" pen (conveniently by them, surprise surprise) to achieve smoother color that isn't clumped up.

Crayola -- one of the better-quality cheapy brands, a few of the colors are nice and even compare to more impressive brands but most are rather pale and weak.

Roseart -- dreadful quality, would only use this as a last resort if I can't find the exact color I'm looking for anywhere else, but have only had this problem with two colors so far.

Any others that don't immediately jump to mind -- ask and if I have tried them, I will definitely let you know what I thought of them.
I love reviewing products, especially if it might help someone further their artistic hobbies and talents.
However, it's never a bad idea to test things out for yourself and gather your own opinions on them.

Thanks a bunch for the question~! If you have any others, don't hesitate to ask! ^^
