Well first attempt at an eclipse and black nebula cloud thingies so I guess it's not the best but we all start somewhere

nice smooth feel to this one. Quite a nifty use of the dropping shadow on the right side moon/planetary object. Keep up the work. Allways good to see space work here at DA

Well, this one is less of "painting" like you would do a landscape scene XD, it's more using photoshop's tools I.E layer styles such as overlay and colour dodge, along with some filters and of mixed techniques to get a main base. Of course, there is some proper painting involved to get nice shape and details on a beautiful zoom of like 500% sometimes, or else scribbles will be everywhere lol.

I've wondered how space scene artists achieve that nebulous depth because I could never do it when I tried to create a space image XD Still really quite amazing.

Well, I think you just think of it like layers xD, for instance in this one, you have the black clouds infront, then the lighter clouds making some shapes, until you eventually reach a quite light colour, and usually that's next to a star

Beautiful use of colour and light. The soft gradients paired with the rich, wispy textures in the space is quite spectacular and relaxing, particularly around the planet. The distinct light source also adds onto this, highlighting the rim of the larger planet in a heavenly way. Of course, the image bears great merit from the rich, relaxing cyans and deep blues used, supported by the sprinkle of stars that does wonders for spicing up the composition. Awesome work!
