had this idea for some reason this morning and it was far too great not to do. went and searched to see how cliche I was being and apparently only a couple of these pointless ventures into card design were thrust upon humanity. I then searched for a card template and ran into a full-blown program made to make custom cards.....apparently this is a common hobby....which scares me...

anyway, if someone stumbles upon this and wants to print out your own version of it to play or worship or whatever it is you people do with these custom, unbalanced cards then feel free, just don't edit anything. it was my idea, damn it, and I want my name on it also, I would love to be informed that you're actually using this thing cause that would be hilarious.

anyway, Magic: The Gathering belongs to wizards of the coast as everyone knows and I'm not affiliated with them even a little bit. in fact, if they saw that I made this they'd probably just laugh at how much of a loser I am

This card makes no sense... What does companion cube have to do with the cake? because they are in the same game? Your mind makes very obvious connections

Shouldn't it's ability have something that would help a target creature considering the companion cube helped you solve puzzles?

Also, this card's ability is only good if you play around it with creatures that have effects when they enter the battlefield

It was still bad 5 years ago... Just because you can, doesn't mean you should

No, I just refuse to allow stupidity to be praised, and if you wish to put content on a site like deviantart.com, you open yourself to feedback, both positive and negative. The second you press "Upload" you are saying "Hey world, I made this; what do you think?"

I am not a prick sir, I am a devil's advocate because I refuse to lie to make someone feel good about their "work." It's like my writing teachers always used to say, "Positive feedback doesn't improve a writer; it does not show them what they need to change."

I'm aware that quote uses the word "writer," but it can be applied to anyone, including artists, athletes, and whatever it is you call someone that tries to make original magic cards based on games.

Not praising stupidity is different from insulting it. A devil's advocate is someone who takes the negative side to prove a point, but you had no point to prove, evidenced by the fact that you've yet to try and prove one.

You can hide behind whatever facade you like, but no one critiques a piece of work done years in the past and expects to actually help anything by doing so. I've had 5 years to learn since this was uploaded, and if I were to make a new version, it wouldn't be remotely the same. And I've progressed to the point that I wouldn't even upload it again if I WERE to make one. In fact, I've hidden the one I did make into a part of my gallery that isn't readily visible because it was a silly thing I did when I was a teenager. If you were trying to help anything, you'd have put a little effort into it and known that.

But you weren't. You don't actually care, you just want to voice your opinion because you think people care what you have to say. Whether that's true or not, I can't say, I don't know you. All I can know about you right now is that you're immature and prone to inflammatory comments. Well just do me a favor and keep them to yourself in the future. You want to critique my artwork to help me get better, go right ahead, I welcome critiques with open arms, but do so in a way that is fueled by wisdom, not ignorance.

The second ability should be: "Remove target creature with a cake counter from the game until end of turn. The cake is a lie."

I'm impressed. I haven't seen too many cards on dA that appear to be balanced.

Xelioth In reply to sailoranon72asdf [2010-01-22 15:18:21 +0000 UTC]

I think these days it would need to be "Remove all creatures with a cake counter on them from the game" to be balanced, actually.

but yeah. most people just want "OMFG AWESOME!" card, while I prefer one that actually works.

With the return of the creatures (assuming it is still until EoT) there is still charge up time of how many get evacuated.

I would hate to lose the utility of offering my own creature cake though (if the EoT is removed). >.<

Xelioth In reply to sailoranon72asdf [2010-01-29 00:57:53 +0000 UTC]

oooooh. no. I meant WITH the EoT. too much utility in poofing creatures till end of turn to take that mechanic out.

Jonmkl [2008-10-17 10:13:29 +0000 UTC]

I like it, except that the cake counter disappears when the creature leaves play. Maybe if it read;

(4) Remove target creature with a cake counter on it from the game, Return it to the play with a cake counter on it at the end of the turn

That'd be tight

Xelioth In reply to Jonmkl [2008-10-17 13:16:38 +0000 UTC]

I REALLY didn't put much thought into it

If I were to redesign it, I'd do what you suggested and make it either cheaper or affect multiple creatures with cake counters on them.

either way, I was just bored and it was something to do at the time.
