Description
Despite the name, Basilosaurus is not a lizard but instead an ancient whale that was one of the earliest oceanic predators since the time of the Mesozoic marine reptiles. This is the species B.isis from the "valley of the whales" site in Egypt also known as Wadi al Hitan which is a UNESCO world heritage site. This cetacean was one one of many sea going mammals that would later give rise to modern day whales, dolphins and other cetaceans that call our seas home.Related content
