Tennessee's tribes tell stories of great horned banded serpent called "Uktena" that lived in the area some time ago. They lure people and animals up to them with a brilliant scale on the forehead and devour them. The scale supposedly contains a large amount of mystical power. It's primary enemy is the giant hawk, Tlanuwa which can slash the serpent apart and eat it. Of course the food chain can go both ways...
