Basically the same way you did those air plane things. But instead of the 16th century(?) illustrations I used sprites from the 2d sidescroller Metal Slug

Hmm...it needs a bit of work. There's some cool fight scenes, but you could have done a *little* better...using some of your own sprites, or something a little more original, perhaps. Still, good work.
