I use 3ds max7. the warp-space effect is also 3d. I got the warp effect by turning two cones insideout then putting two different mapps on them and making the cones transparent, and last I put an omni light iside the cones. The pic is actually a still shot taken from a avi clip I made of the ship coming out of warp space it is only 1 min long but it looks great.

Hey! Did you animate the warp effect as well? I'm running out of inspiration for animated warp effects and was wondering if you might be able to help. =X
