Description
My take on a Foo (Shishi) Dog. Next in my series of Asian mythological animals.Fu and Shishi both literally mean lion. They're called Foo "dogs" because of their canine appearance, because most of the Chinese artists at the time had never seen a lion, and only rendered them from word-of -outh descriptions. Unlike lions, dogs are quite ubiquitous and heavily influenced the design.
My husband named this one Spud, after his Chow.
There is actually a breed, closely related to Chows, known as Chinese Foo Dogs.
Also, I can't end this without mentioning that this was also inspired by *missmonster 's work [link] She does great work with Foo Dogs, among other things, in all sorts of media. Check her out!

Chows area really great dogs. They act like cats that bark, but they are very loyal
