This is interesting! I might use this as a reference if I decide to draw a Sleipnir in the future.

Okay, so I can see how his extra limbs are attached.Β But how can he move?

Exactly. Β That's why I am not using this incarnation in my final.

I absolutely love this. As a huge fan of both the mythos and anatomical drawings, this is incredible. I want a HQ print of it.

As someone else said, you can't copyright the design of an 8-legged horse because it was already done a long time ago lol.Β

But, you did not create Sleipner. You simply drew the skeleton. So you cannot copyright the creature, only the drawing...

Seriously? Thank you for posting this! I needed a reference sheet for a sleipnir for my novel and now I know exactly what I need to do in a particular sequence! XD You're awesome!

I thought he had only six legs. Either way, well done.

That's quite useful. I recently drew Sleipnir as well but I had trouble deciding how the extra legs were supposed to be attached. The Wikipedia article says only that he has eight legs but gives no info on how they should connect to the rest of the horse. I don't know very much about actual horse anatomy, but I'd think this is probably a logical arrangement.

Nice picture. I like the detail ^^.
I don't think you can call it an original creature though since it's been drawn by so many people over so many generations, including both the 6 legged version and the 8 legged one shown here. It's an original drawing of the skeleton structure, but not an original creature or idea unfortunately.
Still, kudos on the work~ Its wonderfully done.

Yeah, I know. Sleipner himself (6 or 8 legged) is not my original creature. None of the creatures in my project are, otherwise it would just be my original creatures, and where would the fun be in learning about creatures I made up? But how I portray culturally accepted mythical creatures for the purpose of my project is my point. Dragons for example are not the intellectual property of any one person, since they're so ingrained in many of our cultures, but how authors/artists choose to portray them is. One could get into some trouble drawing Mercedes Lackey's Pern dragons without her permission, even though she can't claim the concept of dragons as her own.

Well, I've always thought dragons had more room for leeway as you can always come up with new designs, features, ect and claim that as your own version of dragons. Sleiphner were more structured so it didn't make much sense to put a copyright on it unless of course it had more then 8 legs or whatever.
But take it how you wish. I was just stating my own opinion and I respect yours.

Oh this is nice, very nice! You've done really great work! I hope you don't mind if I use this as a little help in case if I do a sculpture of Sleipnir? And sure, I can give you some credit if that happens!

I thought Sleipnir only had 6 legs? I guess mythologies may differ. Of course I heard the story from Lars. Sometimes he forgets.

All the sources and old carvings of him I've seen says/shows he has 8, though in FF7, has 6. I guess it depends on who you ask.

I'd trust the old carvings more than I'd trust a Final Fantasy game... But it might depend who you ask. Perhaps the Swedish and the Norwegians have different versions.
