Tao was used to fighting for her way. Born the only daughter of a Cantonese noble, she was beset with high expectations from an early age. Profit and loyalty were two simple things theu valued more than their daughter's lovr. Stellar grades, excellence in athletics, a varied extracurricular, and diligence in household duties were only a handful of the realities she would have to accept if she ever wanted her family’s acceptance.

Martial arts was a time-honored tradition within their family line and it was only natural that Tao fell into it. No, it was expected that she would become a master.

Her training began at the age of seven and by sixteen she had accumulated enough merits to found her school with the right blessings. Gold medals, scholarships, and accolades piled on her shelves and overflowed to tucked away corners of her closet. The ace of her school, no one dared challenge her. The crushing weight of the Fong legacy added power to her fist and evoked fear in every step.

Beneath her martial genius, however, lay a web of insecurities and bottomless doubt. Was she good enough? Strong enough? Smart enough? Fast enough? When the collapse came, the damage was cataclysmic.

In the final match of the Rising Dragon National, Tao was faced with the strongest adversary in China: Meifeng. An intelligent strategist, a gifted martial artist, a charming beauty, and a relative descendant of the last imperial family, Meifeng had cloaked herself in glory that suggested nothing short of divine favor. All at the tender age of 22. The overwhelming pressure brought down on her shoulders forced Tao to panic.

She met Meifeng with reckless abandon, downing her in the first thirty seconds and breaking her nose with a closed fist strike. After a penatly they were allowed to continue, whereupon Tao ducked beneath Mei's roundhouse and struck a backshooting elbow to the rear of her skull, cracking her skull and rendering her unconscious. Meifeng was awarded a victory by DQ and rushed to the hospital. Tao was handed a permanent ban from her regional league and any national competition to follow.

Expelled by her family, Tao has since been forced to turn to the underground in order to sustain herself. She should have felt sad, abandoned. Insteas, Tao only felt more liberated and free to carry on as she saw gfit. Her technique has since expanded to include more brutal and unflinchingly violent styles from Muay Boran and Silat to the less conventional but nevertheless straightforward and effective Jeet Kune Do. The results of her hard training are reflected in the dense musculature her body managed to build over the course of only two years. She fights with the unspoken hope of one day returning to the professional scene.

Only this time, she would fight for herself. No matter how far she has to go, or how dirty she has to get.

So this is something of a passion project I've been working on for a few months now. I've always had Tao envisioned in the back of my mind, but only recently got pen to paper.

DaigokunArt gets the biggest credit out of all here. They did an amazing job working from a simple sketch to make this design possible. Tao looks exactly how I envisioned her and its all thanks to their efforts. I am so grateful for them working diligently on this over the past months!
