Description
This was super fun! I experimented with her expression a lot before I got it right, but it was so worth itBonus: random unfinished story lmao
*ahem*
Galaxy paced the confined dark cell. The uneven stone floor scraped roughly against her talons as she stared into the shadows, thinking furiously. The only way out was through the thick metal bars that filled the wall. There was no light, but Galaxy wasn’t too bothered about that. Her mind was entirely focused on how to escape her cell, make it past the guards, sneak through the fortress, and make a speedy getaway before her time limit was up. Definitely before the queen arrived to decide her fate.
A light appeared beyond her cell, and Galaxy heard heavy talonsteps making their way toward her. She stopped pacing and sat down in front of the bars, arranging her face to look disinterested, as if she was only in here because she wanted to be, thank you very much. The light flickered and grew brighter, and a heavily armed guard bearing a torch appeared around the corner. He peered suspiciously through the bars, obviously waiting for his eyes to adjust to the blackness. He thrust the torch forward and finally focused on Galaxy, who flashed a bored look at him and proceeded to examine her claws.
He narrowed his eyes at her and said, “Audience with Queen Thorn. One hour. I suggest you smarten yourself up and wipe that superior look off your face. She’s dangerous when she loses her temper.” Galaxy raised her eyebrows cooly. “Oh? That may be, but I highly doubt that she’s more dangerous than me,” and she whipped her long tail around and gazed at it as if it was the most interesting thing in Pyrrhia at the moment. Her words had the desired effect on the guard who puffed up indignantly and blustered, “Well, I guess you’ll just have to find out the hard way! And I’ll make sure to be there and see it!” Galaxy yawned, and his tirade stopped abruptly. “I’ll be back in an hour,” he hissed, and he stormed off, his tail lashing murderously.
When he and the light had disappeared around the corner, Galaxy settled back on her haunches, grinning. The ploy had paid off. The guard had been so worked up that he wasn’t paying attention when she lifted something off his chestplate. She allowed herself a quiet snicker, because in her talons there was an ornate silver key.

Galaxy checked herself for weapons as she padded swiftly through the rough stone halls. She counted the two daggers under her wings, the sleeping powders in the pouch along her tail, the poisons and dragonflame cactuses tucked carefully in a pouch around her chest, and the pipe and hollow darts in another pouch on her chest harness. She smiled grimly as she thought of how she could take three grown dragons out at a time even without her various tools. She heard voices ahead and pricked her ears, coming to a cautious stop.
“...and then she yawned! She YAWNED,” came a furious voice. “Well, Scorch, maybe you weren’t as intimidating as you thought you were. Besides, she’s an assassin and a thief. She might have been bluffing, they always are excellent liars,” responded a matter-of-fact female voice. Aha, thought Galaxy. He’s recounting his plights to his comrades. She listened, trying to figure out how many there were. She heard two more voices besides Scorch and the dragoness, although there could have been more.
Galaxy crept forward, readying her sleeping darts, being careful not to breathe in. She peeked around the corner and saw five guards arguing around a low table with a bowl of dried meat on it. She pulled back and loaded three darts, cursing the pipe for not being longer. Her adrenaline spiked and she raised the pipe to her mouth, preparing to fire. Galaxy stepped around the corner and shot the three closest guards in the chest, one after another. They fell where they stood before they even registered what happened.
The two left, the female and a burly male, whirled around, their eyes as round as the moons. She blew another quickly readied dart at the big one, who knocked over the table as he slumped and fell, then fired at the dragoness, but she had wasted precious seconds. The remaining guard leaped out of the way, quick as lightning, and drew her sword. Galaxy drew her concealed daggers from under her wings and squared off. The guard's tail twitched nervously, but her eyes were chips of black ice. Galaxy smiled at her with a bit of teeth to show she meant business. They circled each other warily, stepping over the unconscious soldiers and scattered jerky. Then, without warning, the dragoness charged at Galaxy with her sword out. Galaxy dodged easily, tripped the guard with her tail, and whipped around again, her wings raised for balance. The guard struggled to her feet and swiped at Galaxy’s face. Galaxy dodged by a claw-length and heard it whistle as it missed. She needed to get serious, because this dragoness obviously had a level of skill with her weapon. Galaxy crouched and sprang at the dragoness, meeting her sword with crossed daggers. They were locked like that, neither gaining an advantage, until Galaxy used pure strength to throw the other dragoness into the wall behind her.
She hit the stone with a crack and slithered to the floor, her sword falling out of her talon with a clatter. Galaxy stood and let herself recover for a minute, then picked her way over to her opponent. She felt for a pulse, and was relieved to find that her heart was still beating steadily, although she was out cold. Galaxy didn’t want her to die, as she had been a respectable opponent. She turned and scented the air, then took the corridor that smelled of sunlight.
